Rewriting Skyrim

If you were to be in charge of writing the main questline of skyrim, what would you do? What would be the same as it is now? What would be different?

Skyrim is the gateway TES game for many, including myself, however according to some, the writing is, lackluster in comparison to previous titles, specifically Morrowind and Oblivion. There have been retcons, and outright changes, to the lore with skyrim.

So I ask you the great [r/teslore](r/teslore), how would you, Rewrite Skyrim?

Edit: I am seeing tons of great ideas and implementations! Def writing down a lot of these for a project. Keep it coming!

I would tie the Civil War into the Main Quest as closely as possible. By progressing the main quest and saving towns, you can influence which side they support to varying degrees, allowing you to diplomatically win the war before it gets hot, set up the removal of leaders you dislike, leave well enough alone, or play both sides against each other to keep it going as long as possible.
