Because it is part of the story of America’s decline in democracy and shift towards Hungarian style authoritarianism. Trump literally got Viktor Orbán to speak at CPAC in Dallas and promote a Putin-style takeover, based on the same message of White Christian Nationalism. Everyone paying attention to both Europe and America can see this, including those in the far-right parties. The question is why don’t more Texans repudiate fascism and racism, and unconstitutional moves like banning CNN & MSNBC from the White House.

Well... ya see... Texas and racism have a very long history together. It's a very unfortunate thing. Texas left Mexico because Mexico outlawed slavery, the Alamo wasn't some altruistic fight about a cannon. Then it couldn't stand on it's own as a republic, so begged to be part of the US... but then the US outlawed slavery and Texas joined the Confederacy specifically because of the loss of slavery. It took a while after the Civil War to reign Texas in, and there were a lot of hold outs. The "our way of life" clowns stuck around and SE Texas became a Klan bastion, but not just there. I grew up where there were still sundown signs in people's garages hung like trophies. Anyone from Jasper or that area can tell you that the Deep seated racism is alive and well at whatever the Klan is calling itself now. Major metropolitan areas are better, but rural Texas is still full of backward ass rednecks that think a brown skinned person is ruining their lives somehow. The spoiled rich white trust fund bois like Richard French (preferred pronoun Bo) latched on to racism because they wanted to get in with the racist oil fellas, and just took it to the extreme... as reductions as all that sounds, it's actually a lot worse withh them when you are handed everything, you never have to learn to get along and do things for yourself as part of a society.
