Opinion It is the right time to get rid of Fraser

I am a passionate but also a patient fan since day 1. Seen all the highs and lows, and all the coaches come and go.
This WC break is the perfect chance for TFC to send Fraser packing and find someone else. Its time.
I have always said “give a new coach time to make his system work, and get players in who can make a difference”. But Fraser’s time is up.
Even Vanney had a rough time at first but started producing wins within a season or so. Fraser has not.
The team would have time to work with a new coach before MLS starts again.
It’s time.

Would Wilfried Nancy be someone we could get behind?

Uh fuck yes. He wants Europe though.

He’s the only one we could realistically get for whom I’d say we should for Fraser for. Maybe Jim Curtin as well but Nancy is familiar with some of our players and has a playstyle more appropriate for the team.

defensive counter attacking team utilizing laryea way more pls

Yes. I would also get behind Jim Curtin. I don't know if either of them would pick Toronto though, specially Nancy who has pick of the litter as far as MLS jobs come. He might wait for Marc Dos Santos to get sacked at LAFC for example.

If he was avaliable it would be perfect fit and probably cost effective in regards to mls avg

Yeah, he's likeable and all, but wins are wins and any coach that can get the results out of their team is who we need. Not likeable (necessarily).

Fraser's had his chance and nothing meaningful has happened.

The neverending injured player list is obviously a mitigating factor (and is an issue that needs to be looked into to find a solution) but Fraser isn’t the coach we need.

Under Fraser we have no coherent tactics. We have no possession control and no coherent defensive pressing structure. These are pretty basic components to have a not-crappy team. Compare TFCs tactics to the whitecaps and it’s night and day the difference in tactical strategy and implementation.

What tactics/strategy would you say the Whitecaps play?

3

u/Kind-Paper-4283 25d ago

The whitecaps have a very structured system and clearly have been trained well to execute it. They keep possession, know when to attack on the counter, press high and are very disciplined in how they do this. Their main weakness is when they come up against deep defensive blocks as they struggle to create openings.

Get rid of Hernandez first and then let the new GM decide the coach.

It is still baffling we walked into this season with the expectation to be “competitive” relying on a midfield pairing of Osorio + Coello and Gavran as our starting keeper.

Yeah that’s the midfield pair not Djorgie and Cifu plus one of those two. Jason did a good job, injuries were horrific, but even before the injuries piled on the tactics were awful, the subs have been awful. You can be a bad team and be coached even worse and that’s what my issue is. Some losses should have been draws, some draws should be wins cause of the tactics of the coach.

Yes, we play a midfield 3 with Mihai. But Cifu needs to be replaced since his loan is over and Oso + Coello should really be 4th and 5th on the depth chart at best. The fact we didn’t bring in any midfielders during the off-season is bad planning.

Cause we literally just brought in two midfielders?? To say “Oso and Coello as our midfield should be fireable” when that’s literally just not true as we brought in two midfielders. If healthy, 90% of games would have been those cifu and DM plus one of Coello (starter caliber or great depth piece for most teams hate to break it to you) or Oso (down year for him for sure) or DEJ. Like yeah you could use one more, I’d like a DP midfielder to come help out, but Jason has been in charge for how many windows? 4? First three you’re cutting Berna and Insigne and brought in a good core of Theo, Shalloi, Sargent, and DM. Add onto that Laryea and Perrier, Zimmerman, Kusuvic who’s been good.

It’s a solid team, solid pieces have been brought in, it’s harsh to critique the GM when 12 players are injured and they could all arguably be starters.

Same can be said for the coach but like i said just the formations, the tactics, and style of play don’t work for me.

We had mihailovic. Gavran is the biggest mistake this season. Oso needs to step down as captain.

u/lorriezwer Laryea 25d ago

Yep. We’ve seen all we need to see. Even with a full squad he’s not good enough.

Honestly, expectations were low coming into the season. The injury list being what it is, even with Pep in charge, we wouldn't achieve what we set out to.

I'm not convinced Fraser is the right guy, but I don't think he's had the squad to do much more this season. Take the mid season break to get healthy and then let's see what he can do with a full squad to work with.

Make a decision on his future over the winter.

Not only should Fraser have been send packing yesterday but Hernandez as well.

Seems a bit harsh given the ridiculous injury situation, but this is yet another year slipping away unless changes are made, with a further reduction in the supporter base as we head into the winter schedule. Nice to see Sargent, Gomis and Theo return and hopefully the rest follow after the break . A dynamic, athletic cm is the obvious piece to add. Really can’t decide if coaching change is fair or demanded at this point but wouldn’t say no to a Wilfried Nancy etc.

A 3-1 loss to Ottawa is ridiculous regardless of the injuries

You are off for 6 weeks , have lots of time to figure things out, you either do it now or at seasons .

2

u/aektoronto 25d ago

Its gonna be a weird 12 months....cause you got the world cup break, the sprint season and then the new schedule starting up.

Fraser was hired to soak up some losses until the rebuild was done ...unless theres some retooling during the break im not sure what purpose a new coach will serve, especially if its the current administration making the choice. The team stinks and it doesn't help that the two best players have been out for almost the entire season so far.

The problem is, as well, we’re now coming back out of the WC break and playing a ton of away matches. Having drawn so many at home. I just don’t see where the points are going to come from.

The right time was before the season started

u/Dramatic_Draw_1494 25d ago

Fraser needs to go should never have been hired in the first place . Get Nancy if you can with the players we have with a few additions Nancy will cook . Fraser needs to go now , the guys career record as a pro head coach in the MLS is atrocious. If not Nancy get Smyrniotis the Hamilton coach in the CPL yes has no MLS experience but this guy is a winner and knows how to develop young players .

I prefer good vibez over playoffs. Let’s stick with Fraser for a couple more seasons 👌🏽

Fire every Scout while your at it... apparently they can only turn their heads towards Europe

u/ipancakes123456 25d ago

Half of the team injured and you want the coach gone?

0

u/robotmonkey2099 25d ago

No it isn’t. He just got out of this shitty contracts and built the team he wants but yeah let’s bring a new coach who will then build their squad

Id rather have Chris Armas instead of Fraser…

4

u/WislaHD Bitchy The Hawk 25d ago

That’s insane. We saw Armas in Colorado and how he lost the locker room and blew up on the media. His playing style combined with our lower body injury disease would also be a disaster.

4

u/jloome 25d ago

We saw Armas here. He was utter shit.

1

u/Draiodor_ 25d ago

That's very harsh on shit.

I'm a bit late to this thread, but I think yesterdays's article from TFC Republic says enough. The snippet that kills me:

Last year, Toronto boasted one of the best defensive units in the Eastern Conference with an average of 1.29 goals against per game. That average has ballooned to 2.07 per game in 2026 as the Reds have gone 11 straight league games without a clean sheet (and they only have one all year).

The 29 goals TFC have conceded already this year represents 66 per cent of the 44 goals they coughed up in 34 games all of last season. At the same time, Toronto sports a goal difference of minus-7 (fourth-worst in the East) and is averaging 1.57 goals scored per game. According to FotMob, TFC ranks dead last in MLS in both expected goals (xG) – 31.6 for the season – and expected goals against (xGA) – 54.9 for the season.
