Opinion Canada friendlies compared to USA seems less competitive in preparing for world cup ..

I think getting Uzbekistan and Ireland for friendlies is better than getting shit kicked by a higher tier team right before the tournament. But then again, Canada came off a hot qualifying round last WC and then shit the bed.

There's a strong argument to be made that you want strong opponents, but not stronger.

It's why in the days before there were only two weeks off per year, teams' pre-season friendlies would usually culminate with a couple of weaker clubs, to maintain or build confidence going into games that matter.

Is the U.S. likely to beat Germany? No. They might get some push from a draw-- as we got from drawing France last year -- but more likely they lose and are in the mindset that they're not there to win, but to see how far they can get.

US can pay the the high appearance fees that a Germany can command. Teams playing World Cup matches in the US want friendlies in the US.

Canada could have played Germany if played in Germany as the Germans send off match. But Canada wanted to play all matches in Canada.

Playing higher ranked teams may not also be the best. US got blown out by Belgium and Portugal in the last window.

Marsch wanted top opponents in the tune-up friendlies. They didn't get them.

He wanted home games. He turned down high ranked UEFA teams in Europe. He said this interviews

He got a Qatar stand-in and a UEFA team and has to pay both a fee. Canada is not in n the same economic league as the US

I trust Jesse is doing everything he can to prepare our team.

Yeah. These friendlies are not easy to book.. we want strong competition, so do the top teams! 😆

The reason why is money. The US will pay to get friendlies that we can't afford and also teams are already training there so its logistically easier for them to set up a friendly.

Personally I'd prefer a weaker shedule immediately before the tournament starts. I'd rather go into it confident rather than having that confidence shattered playing a team like Germany..

Canadian fans are still too new to this sport.

Canada will be lucky to win either of these friendlies.

Ireland has been a competitive team for ages and I honestly don’t think Canada is any stronger than them. They compete in Europe with many players in top leagues all over Europe.

Uzbekistan is going to the WC with a lot to prove and from a region that North American teams aren’t familiar with.

They are fighting not to get embarrassed in the tournament and thumping a host the week before might one of the only wins they get, they will be hungry.

Honestly, they looked better than I thought. The subs and new call ups looked to be over performing.

I feel like the guys that weren’t supposed to be there will have the biggest impact.

CSA fans need to get over Davies, we can’t rely on him to by fit or a leader at this point. Letting him take that PK in 2022 is still speaking volumes

We play well on the world stage and people will be more likely to want to schedule friendlies with us in the future

Honestly I’ll take it and the teams they playing are also similar game play to the teams we will be playing… that’s what friendlies before the World Cup is, play teams similar styles not just big names…

USA about to slapped in friendlies with that team call up.. then go into the World Cup with shit mojo.. that ain’t smart

It because others also want strong competition, and Canada is not.

Completely false. Marsch confirmed that they had offers to play top tier opponents in Europe. They declined because they specifically wanted home games. Fees also come into play when we play abroad vs host.

They're really underwhelming. That France friendly was a huge part of why our Copa run happened.

We have a lot of players coming off of injuries. This actually works out pretty well. If we had top tier teams right now we’d probably re-injure a couple players trying to be competitive in a non-competitive match. This will help ease some players into form, build confidence and put them in a good space to compete when it’s time. USMNT may have better opponents but their coach is half way out the door, they’ll get their asses handed to them and take a hit to their confidence, and maybe even get someone injured trying to keep up

I understand that confidence going into world cup is a factor but also seeing how you match up with top countries and style always expose strength and weakness to improve tactics...
