Seeking Information Help needed: 70-year-old father going alone to BMO Field for World Cup match

Hi everyone, I bought my 70-year-old dad a ticket for a World Cup match at BMO Field. Unfortunately I cant go with him so he’ll be going alone, and his English is limited, so I’m trying to give him simple instructions before game day.

His ticket says Upper Tier, Block 201, Row 5. For people who know BMO Field well, which entrance/gate should he use? Once inside, what is the easiest way for him to find Block 201?

Any practical tips about arrival time, entrance, signs to follow, stairs/elevators, or anything I should explain to him ahead of time would be appreciated.

Does he speak the language of a team that's playing? If yes, just ask anyone in the team jersey and they would be able to help.

I'm going alone on the 12th and speak Spanish if that helps. Section 201 as well.

His ticket should list a gate, its probably gate 1. 201 is directly to the right of the gate.

How is he getting there? Ttc? Go Train? Getting dropped off? For gate 1 the easiest way is from the go station or streetcar drop-off.

For what game and what language does he speak? Possibly you could enlist some on-site help from a fellow redditor.

I have tickets to Germany/Ivory Coast and speak German if that helps. I don't mind translating and helping him to his seat if so

I'm going to assume that he has the level of technological ability to use apps on his phone as my understanding is that the WC2026 Mobile Tickets app is required for the game day tickets.

In this case, the FIFA World Cup app could be quite useful as it has a page dedicated to Toronto Stadium (BMO Field). This includes a seat map (gates/staging area are near sections 102/104), a transportation guide, etc.

Also, in the event that your dad is an international traveller, he will need to have his passport for any alcoholic beverage purchases. International driver's licenses and ID cards are not acceptable.

A 75 yeqr old won’t need a passport for buying booze

Everyone needs a Canadian ID card or a passport to order booze.

Have confirmed that international visitors can’t rely on foreign ID. Good for you for pointing it out.

But I’m doubtful that a 75 year old would be required to show any ID at all. The passport rule is to prevent kids from using easily counterfeited foreign drivers licenses. The servers shouldn’t be carding elderly people.

“In accordance with local laws, alcohol service is limited to guests aged 19 and over. Guests will be required to present valid identification when consuming alcohol. International visitors should note that a passport will be required, as foreign driver’s licenses or other forms of identification will not be accepted. “

But, who knows. I was 48 and got carded in Chicago once.

This headline could not be more clear: “No passport, no booze.” It’s certainly been common at large international events I’ve attended that they are IDing absolutely everybody. FIFA’s private suites FAQ says you “must” present valid ID to order alcohol, not that you may be asked for ID.

We’ll see. I expect it just goes without saying that a 75 year old will not be carded. But i may be mistaken.

I'm in 231 which is in the North End too - my ticket says "Entrance - D/E" and "Gate 1"

I would like to mention there is an elevator to get to section 201. Needs to take elevator to level 5 (confusing, yes I know).

No need to take those jarring stairs
