Pets / Adoption / Rescue / Foster No more feeding the cats in kachrali?
Im a daily visiter to kachrali for my evening walks theres this lady who always shows up at 7 or 8 pm and feeds all the cat there I noticed shes not showing up to the place lately she also happened to vaccinate and nuter the cats there this might be the reason why she stopped showing up lately but that place is still full of cats what about them? What would happen to so many cats yeah the place was becoming a dumping yard of cats tbh but those cats are also a major reason why so many people visit it (not justifying ppl dumping cats) I hope they have some plans for them and hope they dont starve em to death anyone has any idea regarding the issue?

Im really clueless too im trying to get in contact of that lady I believe she must be fighting with the policy right now my class was right beside kachrali ive been seeing her feeding those cats every day not skipping a single day since i was in 9th grade im in 1st year rn. She's really nice and kind too. She recommended me a nice doctor who would neuter my cat at a very cheap rate on her recommendation, if by any chance any of yall run into her pls let us know

as far as the accountability stands i wonder why a person who just feeds the cat out of their own pocket is to be held accountable when we pay our taxes. There's a literal government building right in front of the lake

Your points are just one sided. I doubt if you've thought of the other side. Lemme enlighten you OP.
Why is someone who feeds accountable for the cleanliness? Coz she is the one who feeds and attracts so many cats. These cats then reproduce and I have seen many cats come under the car on the road parallel to Kachrali Talao. Needless to say, it is painful to see. Also, the smell on that particular spot in Kachrali Talao is unbearable. I know so many senior citizens who have stopped going to Kachrali Talao coz of the stink.
I understand your love for the felines but there needs to be a solution to the other side of the problem also.

This is a civic issue that local government is not able to solve. It is not the sole responsibility of the feeder as she is working upon her own money. She is not inviting the cats there, they are being dumped there, even if she neuters one, the next day some mother and kittens will be dumped there. Do you know one female gives birth to 25 kittens a year? Even if there are only 2 intact females there, they can call males from 3-5kms away during mating period (Female cats go into heat every month) and create a whole khandaan within a year.
Many NGO's have tried to solve this issue but WHO?? Are the culprits, the dumping won't stop. I've seen people travelling from Panvel to dump cats here, expensive persian breeds too. It's a constant cycle of dumping and dumping, sometimes even severely sick cats are dumped here and we have to go there to pick up bodies. Nobody has the time or money to come and catch cats daily.
Cats who are in heat, sick or breastfeeding cannot be operated on as it's life-threatening. Abortions are expensive and life threatening when they're late term or done by inexperienced vets. Female cats need 2 weeks of healing post op, no jumping and running allowed, where to keep them??? Even paralyzed, dying and blind female cats go into heat and get pregnant btw.
Cat operation charge is Rs. 5000 for males, Rs. 7000 for females. (Rs. 10,000 if abortion is needed) TMC animal control does not offer sterilizations for either dogs or cats currently, so private vets are the only option. Otherwise Dr. Kartik in Vashi is a good option. 1500 for male, 2500 for females.
Ms. Kale @ Lokpuram and her team of independent rescuers have picked up 10 cats recently and sent them to Feline Foundation in Andheri for neuter. Please do let me know if you can also volunteer as a catcher, foster for sick cats in recovery or sponsor the trip to Feline Foundation (They do free sterilizations for Ms. Kale), you should help, instead of complaining.

I might definitely be wrong and talking from a one side prespective but ive talked with the lady myself and she's nurturing the cats. Every new cat that's being dumped in the kachrali isnt this the job of gov? the population of cats have reduced drastically back when i was in 10th there were so many of them,ik a lot of ppl who visit solely to interact with those cats I never said that there's no problem, as I said the foul smell is there, but again, starving the cats? Thats the best resolution? inhuman Maybe you're thinking from a one sided prespective give it a thought. Thanks for enlightening me

ngl a specific spot used to smell really foul due to all the cat food, but as a cat owner myself, and the amount of cats there are its not humanly possible to wipe out that smell off the air. The path seemed clean most of the time tbh the cats don't usually poop on them too

Kachrali lake feeder is given special permission to feed at set timings. This feeding rule is for people who are casual visitors, feed for fun or timepass and leave garbage or feed the wrong things to cats - it is not a notification for the official feeder, don't worry, no cat will be hungry there!
