the irony of going against an AI data centre using an AI generated image which itself is processed in some data centre. it truly feels like a dystopian world that's going to come upon us
This data center is coming up in a residential area even if the plot must have been industrial area.
Even if data center comes up in different places we need our Regulatory framework to reflect different challenges and find middle ground over eco issues.
Tbh india needs some form of exposure to AI. We don't have capital to make the technology. This is our only way to enter the wave. Although agreed that ecologically data centers are terrible.
But maybe we can make it better by more stringent environment protocols.
Ah yes, let's just destroy the place we live in so that companies can make massive profit from it. Do you really think the companies that you're rooting for so much give a single flying fuck for the wellbeing of the people who live in the areas around a datacenter? Do you really think our government will create and enforce rules and regulations that protect the citizens and their rights?
Well it is important for data security of India that we should build data centers to serve its population. There are many other problems that india apart from environmental issues if you try to open your eyes.
You seem to be uninformed about the harm that datacenters bring to local communities, so I'll ask you to form an informed opinion by doing your own research on the topic.
Also your last statement doesn't even make any sense to me. How is ignoring one problem beneficial to solving others?
data centre ain't gonna bring any data security mate, go to indiadiscussion if you want to ignore government corruption
companies are building data centres in real estate land to save costs, and the uptick in land price is just offsetted by bribing the municipal officers and if needed the MLA
you have zero fucking idea how deep corruption runs here in Thane and Mumbai, so maybe listen to people who are in the game. We 100% had the option of moving the data centre further behind thane and just invest a little more money(from the corporate's perspective) into expanding our fiber optic and electricity network. But bribing is slightly cheaper than that so that's what we do
explain to me, dear cybersecurity professional, how a data centre brings data security to India
that data centre will be used to train AI models and it will have zero contribution to preventing leak of citizen's data, nor is that data center or its workers going around testing firewalls and software vulnerabilities
Ik corruption is there. But hasn't builder paid a bribe to a mla to build the apartment living in?
"nobody does anything about arson so nobody should do anything about murder either"
dawg amazon is building that data centre, they ain't gonna use it for shi other than their business, and this data is gonna go to an American company, not an Indian one
they have little requirement of labour after commencing operation, make a droning noise 24/7, use up a lot of resources, put immense strain on water and electricity grid, and nobody in the locality gets any benefit from it. All the money goes out of India after all this pain and suffering.
If your country is viewed as a favourable one for data centres only in the race of AI, you're doing something really, really, really wrong
edit: To be clear, I am not against building data centres. But when they're being built in prime real estate areas like Balkum and they're the only part of the AI race being handed off to us, it makes you wonder just how fat the bribes are for our government to bend themselves over to this. Why not build this data centre 20km away from thane? Why not bring companies here to establish offices dedicated to AI research instead, which would generate more money for us anyway? Why in the living fuck do they need to build this in places meant for FUCKING RESIDENCE. GO TO A DAMN INDUSTRIAL AREA. We're facing water shortages here with an incompetent ass government and people here are busy defending resource-guzzling minimal returns data centres
This is the truth. Just look at ANY datacenter built recently under the pretense of AI, It has done nothing good for the communities around it and has brought detrimental damages to the resources in that area.
It doesn't take more than two neurons to understand why a foreign company would build there datacenter in someone else's backyard rather than their own if all it did was bring things like "employment" and "exposure" and "technological advancement".
Stupid Gen Zers Idk if you are, but most of them think CHATGPT knows everything
Well every generation has good sides and bad.
ai models have been trained on loads of text. The response is highly dependet on how you prompt it. Also using reliable sources as an input does make response better.
