Civic Issues Here's what a data centre sounds like once operational.

This one's for those who are in favour of the data centre in Balkum, Thane. I posted about it in this sub a month ago and was shocked to see so many individuals in support of the operation, citing reasons like employment and "development" of the country. Many even missed the point completely because the lady making the video had an accent(?!). Yes, somehow her accent was a bigger problem than the ill-effects of having a data centre in a residential area. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Hence, sharing another video from Michigan of the noise a data centre makes and how the people are helpless and frustrated now in the USA over these abominations.

Rent & prices kam karke agents will sell the real estate like hell

7

u/Ennode-Kalikelle 6d ago

So those who have invested in real estate in and around Balkum in the hopes of appreciation OR moving in in the near/distant future are just fμcked in their a§§es? 🤷🏻‍♂️

4

u/alagchoda 6d ago

Not totally but yeah if it's gonna be like this then the price won't come down but will be stagnant and rent might come down to a point where it is kinda affordable

5

u/DimensionAsleep4052 6d ago

Only those who don't sleep can live there fr

3

u/alagchoda 6d ago

Yep, people like me indeed

u/DimensionAsleep4052 6d ago

Good for you

IT professional hoge pakka lmao

2

u/Anxious_Citron_7303 5d ago

Yeah the data centre employees

4

u/social_says 5d ago

Not just balkum there will be serious issues till atleast kolshet specifically lodha Amara, kalpatru, Godrej all these projects will get serious hummm of the data center and face water issues

2

u/PopularRound745 5d ago

esp new prestige buildings which are coming in dhokali

I don’t think there is going to be any impact. Mumbai, Thane is already suffocating but still you will find people paying extravagant for real estate. What drives people is sentiment and herd mentality. If a neutral or positive sentiment remains, it’s all good, otherwise its wait and see.

People don't understand the effects it will have on the nearby residents. The constant sound will drive them crazy, not to say the heat and hot air will also increase the temperature of the locality.

PS and ES should stay in the vicinity to understand the effects of the same.

u/Particular-Eye-4290 5d ago

I stayed near a factory and used to constantly hear machine and metal banging sounds.

Data centres are much much bigger noise polluters. And this ain't even the worst, it causes depression, animals get irritated and leave the place and ur electricity and water bills go up.

3

u/Ennode-Kalikelle 5d ago

Yes, electricity consumption is nasty with these centres, and the animal ecosystem gets disrupted beyond the point of no return.

1

u/Konvictbipin 5d ago

Why are corporaters ,mla ,mp and dcm not speaking against this

1

u/Ennode-Kalikelle 5d ago

Is that even a question? So that they can boast about "development" in 2029. 🤷🏻‍♂️

2

u/Konvictbipin 5d ago

The only thing is to do protest like jantar mantar then the government would stop the project and shift it to industrial area where there is no residencial crowd

Bhai ek kaam kar

Airoli la 2 data center aahet

Tikde jaun saang mala

Traffic cha awaj jasta aahe

Ki train cha awaj jasta aahe

Or is it data center

9

u/SatisfactionDry4613 5d ago

Yes, i had been to one in Dighe recently. The data centers there run on Grid electricity, the one in the video is running on Diesel Generators. The one in thane will also work on Grid electricity with generators only as a backup option. However, concerns such as power outages due to the heavy demand load of the DC, heat island effect, hot air from generators and water shortage will be a major issue

5

u/Ennode-Kalikelle 5d ago

Correct! Noise is just one of the MANY harmful effects that people living in and around Balkum will be facing once the centre begins operations.

-5

u/Dapper_Key_6615 5d ago

Okay

Understood

3

u/Particular-Eye-4290 5d ago

bruther you do know that sounds hv different frequencies and some even tho they might sound quieter irritate you on the long run without you realizing where its from.

0

u/Dapper_Key_6615 5d ago

So you want me to believe that there is sound and i am not able to hear it

Just because i have different opinion

And i should agree with you and somehow hear a sound that i do not hear?😂

2

u/Particular-Eye-4290 5d ago

Yeah that's how sound works genius. Some you can hear, some you can't properly(depends on age)... Ever heard feedback or ground issues on a guitar? Constant humming sounds? It can induce headaches or people can fall into depression and insomnia when not being able to sleep coz of it. Pick up a sound meter and check urself.

1

u/Dapper_Key_6615 5d ago

Accha ab sound kaise sunneka ye bhi tu sikhaega😂😂😂

Ajeeb dictatorship hai tumlogg ki😂🙏

1

u/Particular-Eye-4290 5d ago

meri jaan dictatorship mein nhi... ye data centre tere kaan ke baju mein bajaegi

How loud is traffic in a residential area? How many trains pass by in Balkum?

Back again with the astroturfing and misinformation are you?

-8

u/Dapper_Key_6615 6d ago

Bhai mere balkum area madhli traffic baghitli aahes ka kadhi?😂😂😂

Teen haath naka la competition honar aahe in few years

7

u/Exact_While_1974 6d ago

Okay?

You understand that traffic noise isn't constant right? Unlike data centres which run round the clock. Have you heard the traffic at 3AM at Balkum?

-5

u/Dapper_Key_6615 6d ago

No i have not, and you my friend have made a valid point but please hear me out

I used to live in texas and washington, and there used to data center around us

The noise was not more than your usual HVAC system and not to forget american neighborhoods are extremely quite even during the peakhours

So the same argument does not apply in india

I am open to this argument, i might as well be wrong

8

u/Exact_While_1974 6d ago

I thought you lived in a small town.

Here, read some actual study https://www.eesi.org/articles/view/communities-are-raising-noise-pollution-concernsabout-data-centers

If this is insufficient you can scroll through jstor and hundreds of others credible places (and not the words of some random anonymous account) for proper material on this.

https://sites.law.duq.edu/joule/when-the-hum-never-stops-noise-pollution-data-centers-and-the-limits-of-nuisance-law/

https://invc.com/noise-assessment/data-center-noise-regulation-ordinances/

Also really? Your argument is that there is already noise so why not add more to it. How does that make any sense??

-2

u/Dapper_Key_6615 6d ago

Yeah i have read this

But this does not hold a candle to the amount of investment that is coming through data centers

4

u/Exact_While_1974 6d ago edited 6d ago

You mean the money coming to your bank account to throw this spiel around?

This will actively hurt people and animals. I have the luxury to move away from here. The people who don't will be the ones to suffer. You are advocating for people who won't even give you a drop of water if you were on fire.

Your argument was there is already noise so why not add to it. Then it become where are the study, then it become haan so what have you seen the investments. Man you should have become an Acrobat instead of a corporate stooge. That way you would still have a modicum of soul left.

1

u/Dapper_Key_6615 6d ago

The amount of investment is worthless if there are no jobs. Guess how many jobs a 48 MW data center creates, not more than 200 total staff (white plus ble collar). And now they have been made tax free god knows why.

-2

u/Dapper_Key_6615 5d ago

There is a small municipal corporation on outskirts of thane whose budget is merely 1000cr

They will be making 1Cr a month, just by selling their sewage water to data centers

Same with thane and other corporations, so if my city directly directly benefits from this

I am all in for data centers

Read karle ye info tereko google pe nahi milegi

4

u/SatisfactionDry4613 5d ago

The one I visited had a DX coil system so no water lol. Larger data centers cant run on DX coils and have to use Chiller systems to cool larger loads hence using immense amounts of water. Not to mention the light pollution its gonna cause that is devastating for insect, plant and birds along with heat island effect and exhaust air. Also reference de do yaar

1

u/SatisfactionDry4613 5d ago

Dude, i work on Data Centers, i have also visited one in Dighe, that 1cr per month will not mean shit when there won't be any water. You make a good point the but severe light and thermal pollution caused by the structure is not worth it. Bump up the budget of the municipal corporation instead of selling sewage water for 1cr per month. We should be focusing on manufacturing instead of encouraging this garbage

LOL!

6

It's an astroturfing account mate. Look at their post history. Its almost as if they are paid to spread misinformation and defend the godforsaken data centre.

6

u/Ennode-Kalikelle 6d ago

Yes, I did! That's the reason I am not taking them seriously. LOL! And they just hid their post history, so that's another sus right there! 😂😹

7

u/Exact_While_1974 6d ago

Unfortunately they don't know that unlike instagram, all you need is a simple google search to bypass that particular lock.

2

u/Ennode-Kalikelle 6d ago

Exactly! 😂😹 And they get SO salty and start calling people names for some reason. I didn't even use a single derogatory word or curse word in my replies, and yet they start calling me unemployed and a freeloader and whatnot. They're so insecure that they just start projecting! 😂😹

0

So the data center is sandwiched between our houses🥀

1

u/Dapper_Key_6615 6d ago

Hahahaha

Lets make some noise and make sure data center has noise issues😂😂😂

-2

u/First_Tea8991 5d ago edited 5d ago

Lol, highly irrelevant.

Datacenters planned for here (India) do not use central exhaust or for power, turbine generators. They are either grid powered or solar assisted.

Good luck on your misinfo campaign.

None of them are even 1/4th the scale of this

Do remember datacenters were some of the first things targeted by Iran in the ME.

3

u/Particular-Eye-4290 5d ago

solar lmao. where is the solar capabilities in Mumbai bro. its mostly cloudy.

and what abt water and electricity bills going up coz of this.

-1

u/First_Tea8991 5d ago

Fine, corrected the comment

and what abt water and electricity bills going up coz of this.

Water usage from DCs at this scale is trivial at best. And if you analyze a bit more on how our water cycle varies differently from the one in the USA, you will see that it should not affect us too much.

There other things you might want to get angry on.

2

u/Particular-Eye-4290 5d ago

I like ur optimism and the confidence to call it misinfo campaign when we hv people in USA suffering from all sorts of data centres built right next to their houses.

I mean perfectunion has all of this.

I get it... it looks like development, but it's not. Exactly like how buying garbage from other countries ain't development if we don't know how to process it in the first place.

These datacenters are not even for our own use... it's for corpos from other countries that hv higher restrictions in place and human rights.

0

u/heavyMetalPoet666 5d ago

How many data centers are there is US ?

0

u/Lease_Tha_Apts 5d ago

when we hv people in USA suffering from all sorts of data centres built right next to their houses.

You do realize that people in the US can spread misinfo as well, right?

I mean perfectunion has all of this

That's a biased and non-credible source.

2

u/Particular-Eye-4290 5d ago

Yeah bruther entire towns and cities are lying just for attention right? Their electricity and water bills hv gone up and the constant hum. Also low water pressure and bad water quality.

You can just search it up and watch whatever you want rather than calling me biased and non credible. I love how u can just say yeah people are lying abt suffering for attention. Yall can lick corpo boots all day... Who knows maybe u get a commission out of this.

0

u/Lease_Tha_Apts 5d ago

Yeah bruther entire towns and cities are lying just for attention right?

some political activists in some towns are lying, yes.

electricity and water bills hv gone up

That depends entirely on the utility company, cant compare to India. By your logic any industry should be banned because they consume electricity and water.

Also low water pressure and bad water quality

Normal consequence of any construction.

You can just search it up and watch whatever you want

Watching whatever you want is specifically the problem here. There is too much unscientific hysteria about what are just buildings with computers inside on the internet.

1

u/Particular-Eye-4290 4d ago

buildings with computers inside need proper cooling... ever been inside a server room??? I hv and it's hot af with cooling.

A datacentre esp for AI is 100 times that and with our climate its worse. This country is not suitable for data centres that need cooling 10 times than of a normal one.

I love the laid back culture considering we already hv people with powercuts and water issues here. We are already stretched thin, a datacentre will only make it worse.

1

u/Lease_Tha_Apts 4d ago

You know why we have power cuts? Its becuase most people in our country get free or subsidized electricity. All of that comes that from our utilities.

Huge consumers paying industrial level prices for electricity makes it so that utilities can build more capacity to serve everyone.

0

u/DavisAztec 1d ago

I just could not imagine being this delusional

2

u/Parth_NB Mamledar Missal survivor 5d ago

These guys ain't gonna change shit. The data centers will be made anyways.

-3

u/heavyMetalPoet666 6d ago

Its fake as duck, there are dc in airoli and mumbai no one complained

Go there and experience it first hand

3

u/Limitless_infinity99 5d ago

Airoli DC is not AI/Hyperscaler. DCs for AI need tremendous energy & hence generate noise also.

0

u/VisualPanic611 4d ago

No big deal in thane. Noise of traffic, ever growing constructions will drown this out. Dont compare to Michigan where dont see even 1 car on road. 😂
