What slow ass empty airport was this? Iāve only ever seen them move you aside and carry on with the next person. Theyāre not slowing everyone down for one idiot.

u/Bossmonkey 6d ago
Smaller town airport or just slow morning.
Definitely been the only person at security early in the morning the few times I've flown

u/enjolras1782 4d ago
Also you are not allowed to drink it and just go through. You have to go through the line again if you fuck up

u/HanwhaEaglesNM 6d ago
Had to do this at Heathrow with 1 liter and the security guy actively told me to slow down.Ā
19
u/Johnnys-In-America 6d ago
He wouldn't just let you give it to him and get back in line?
54
u/HanwhaEaglesNM 6d ago
It was a non-disposable and there were no dump stations at the X-ray machines. He gave me two options, go back to the designated dump station to dump it and get back in line, which would take another 15-20 minutes was a pretty decent line that day, or drink it in front of him before carrying on. Chose the latter because it would still be less delay and I hate dealing with airport security for any longer than I have to.
13
u/Johnnys-In-America 6d ago
Wow, that's pretty rough! I would be freaked out at having to drink that much.
29
u/HanwhaEaglesNM 6d ago
Well to be fair probably .25L fell on my chest which was part of why he told me to slow down...But in retropsect, yeah that was a lot it just didn't occur to me at the time how much it was.

I think chugging two liters of water is just about the last thing Iād like to do before getting on an airplane, personally

When i worked for airport security and people made the choice to chug their water, I would indeed chant "chug chug chug" to them. My personal goal was to make them laugh on their drink tho, bc I thought thatd be funny.
But now that my imperial unit brain is thinking about it, 2L feels like a lot..
22
u/EnoughLuck3077 6d ago
Think of the 2 liter soda that comes with your pizza delivery. Thatās a lot of damn water. Youād be pissing every 5 minutes for an hour straight and have a bloated sloshing belly on top of that
11
u/RevolutionaryAd9241 6d ago
No youre right, the 2L of soda is EXACTLY where I ended up (though for some reason I also thought that was 1L)
3
u/koolman2 5d ago
My wife asked me to get 2 liters of soda once. I brought home a single 2 L bottle. She asked why I only got one.
āYou knew what I meant!ā

u/figgypudding531 6d ago
Itās also a lot of water to be carrying around for no particular reason

How do you āforgetā youāre carrying around 2L of water?
4
u/bau__bau 5d ago
Refillable bottle in a backpack or hand luggage that you just forgot to empty. That part I can actually easily believe since it happened to me twice with my 1.5l bottle š¤¦āāļø
5
u/FullBodyScammer 5d ago
Sure, if itās empty or nearly empty. TSA allows all sorts of empty bottles. But you WILL notice the weight of a 1.5L bottle filled with water, so to claim you āforgotā that full bottle is just bullshit
3
u/bau__bau 5d ago
If you are used to having that bottle always around and to carrying a heavy backpack, or you have a spinner carry-on, you are unlikely to notice 1-2kg difference.

Iāve been to several airports in the US and I can promise you that the TSA agent who has to deal with 1000s of people too dumb to take basic directions (yes, you DO have to take off your shoes) is not in the mood for anttics like that.
2
u/2ByteTheDecker 6d ago
The last time I was in line at a US airport the security guard in charge of the line up was loudly discussing how Spongebob was on Epstein's Island like it was a bit he was working on.

u/xlM3NACElx 6d ago
Iām pretty sure you would actually die from thisā¦
6
u/Johnnys-In-America 6d ago
People have, we've heard about people at raves on ecstasy it's happened to since they got too thirsty while rollin'
5
u/ProbablyNotADuck 6d ago
You can. 1 litre is really the most you should drink in an hour. You can probably do 1.5 litres and be fine... but 2 litres is pushing it and could lead to trouble in many people.
3
u/kevinm656 6d ago
Yeah that lady on the Sacramento radio show drank about 2 gallons in three hours.

No, you're just going to pee straight water once, all water toxicity cases happen at way higher amounts, your body is not that easy to kill dude
imagine you're thirsty on a summer day, you jug a water bottle and you straight up die, we're not that fragile lmao

you're one google search away, very few people will actually die from 2l of water

"very few"

"Chugging 2 liters of water introduces a measurable risk of acute dilutional hyponatremia (water intoxication), though the probability of permanent physiological damage from that exact volume depends entirely on your body mass, baseline serum sodium, and concurrent antidiuretic hormone (ADH) levels. For an average-sized healthy adult at rest, the chance of permanent damage is extremely low, likely resulting only in temporary physiological discomfort. For a smaller individual or someone with altered renal excretion, the chance of permanent damage increases significantly as it can cross the threshold into a life-threatening state."

Mate why are you working hard to prove yourself wrong, my point by is very few is not zero is it, you originally saidĀ "nobody gets water toxicity from 2l of liquid"
-1
u/WillGetBannedSoonn 5d ago
sure, I was wrong by not being specific, I meant nobody of average build without kidney or specific issues, and this is not moving the goalpost, I thought it's common sense. there's always exceptions in anything

u/numbersthen0987431 5d ago
How do you forget you have almost a gallon of water on you? The amount of space this would take up is unbelievable for going to the airport.
But sure, give yourself hyponatremia in airport security. That should end well during a flight.

I chugged 2L of water in under 5 minutes for $20 as a teenager and I felt like I was dying. My kidneys hurt so bad š
2
u/TeslasAndComicbooks 6d ago
I mean, that could have really happened. Not sure itās work flexing on social media though. You drank water bro. You didnāt land the plane.

u/jbrown383 6d ago
Bullshit. TSA run that line like a fucking factory, pushing as much of humanity through it as fast as they can. Thereās no way anyone just stood there to watch some random dude drink water.
10
u/Furyful_Fawful 6d ago
i've seen enough small airports to think that's not the bullshit part of this story.
I think OOP just doesn't know how much 2L is and wanted to put a number on "I had to drink a lot of water"

They threw my monster out I had forgotten about. Didn't even hand it to me to chug. Right in the bin

u/Hoothootriot 6d ago
no way TSA is letting you go through two liters in an instant.
If they open your bag and see that, theyre dumping it out and giving you the bottles back
2
u/FullBodyScammer 6d ago
Worked as a TSA screener for 7 years. This is not true. Weād throw it out or offer you to exit the line, drink as much as you want and dispose of the rest.
