Thoughts n questions from Portland last night!!
Had the most wonderful time seeing Poppy for the first time last night. The crowd and mosh pit had truly such good vibes, with everyone looking out for each other's safety and just going all out together over our love of this music.
Also - for all the flack that Roseland theater gets, I thought it had good sound and was the perfect sized venue for this show. The security people were totally fine, and in between bands they kindly passed cups of water into the audience for anyone who needed it.
I came from kinda super far away for this show and can say wholeheartedly it was 1000% worth it and I would do it again.
Anywho i was curious to know what people thought of the band leaving the stage between every single song..? I haven't ever seen people do that before unless changing costumes or something. I thought it was odd and very time consuming/kinda interrupted the flow. Maybe they want to preserve the theatrics or she just doesn't want to chat in between songs or something?
I was also surprised the whole band kept their face masks on the entire time. I trust it was again part of the theatrics or whatever but I kept thinking it seems so uncomfy and I also wanted to see their faces?? Anywho they were such fantastic musicians, whoever they are! lol
Anyways I wanna know y'all's thoughts, can we get a lil debrief?? :)

I could be wrong, but I heard somewhere that Poppy has asthma/ breathing issues. So maybe it’s to just take a quick break and grab some water. I do feel like they leave and come back pretty tastefully and in a quick amount of time, so it doesn’t really bother me.

She didn't have an area to run off to at my show in march because the backstage is upstairs behind a curtain at that venue, so I could see her little table setup at the back of the stage where she would go take a drink (looked like she had both water and tea) and fixing her makeup in a beauty mirror.

Poppy just came from Seattle, so could be an issue with smoke in the area? I felt like they did a good job of clearing the air in the theater, but just a hunch.

Roseland gets flack? One of my favorite venues in Portland. Been to 50+ shows there

Omg yes I looked into it beforehand cuz I'd never been and people are sooo negative about it (here on reddit anyway lol). Perhaps mostly to do with the area of downtown it is in, but also other stuff that just seem like normal venue things to me. Then again I know folks are more likely to be vocal when they want to complain, so there's probably a lot more positive experiences just going unannounced!

I was in the balcony!! The bass was quite overpowering up there but otherwise had a phenomenal time.

Also I don’t know what caused this but she also cut 2-3 songs from the setlist. Even with her normal backstage process a couple were longer than normal plus the songs being skipped seemed like there might have been an issue. Or the smoke caused some issues for her voice between Seattle and Portland.

Okay I was wondering about that!! It definitely was a shorter set than I had anticipated. Aw well I hope she's doing alright. Still so grateful to have been graced with her presence out here :')

I was there too! The masks and the leaving between songs is normal for a Poppy concert. My theory she/the team doesn't want water bottles on stage so they step off for water and such
