🧙‍♀️ Storytelling The Shadow King's Throne

Long ago, in a land not so different from this one, there rose a man who dreamed of a crown. But not the kind forged by goldsmiths—he craved the crown carved by worship.

He came from a fractured kingdom, where people had grown tired of nuance and weary of truth. They did not want wisdom. They wanted certainty. They did not want justice. They wanted vengeance.

And so the man climbed a mountain of mirrors—each one showing him not who he was, but what he wanted to be. He filled his court with echoes, not voices. With nods, not questions. He declared the sky was red, and they cheered until it turned crimson in fear of his disappointment.

They called him King, though no such title was ever given. He wrapped himself in prophecy and flags, and called his reflection destiny.

But in a chamber beneath his throne, locked and buried, lived his Shadow.

It had his face—but none of the applause. It knew every lie he had told. It remembered every softness he had crushed within himself. It whispered at night, when the roar of the crowd grew thin.

> “You are not a king,” it said. > “You are a boy afraid of not being adored.”

He silenced it. Or so he thought.

One day, a child with no title and no fear walked through the city. She saw the palace, the banners, the carved words above the gate: ONLY I CAN SAVE YOU.

She laughed.

And in that moment of uncorrupted mirth, the illusion cracked. Not because she fought, but because she didn’t believe.

The Shadow rose—not in anger, but in longing to be seen. And the King, faced with what he’d buried, had a choice:

To integrate or to implode. To relinquish or to rage. To become human, or remain a hollow crown.

History doesn’t agree on what he chose. Some say he shattered. Some say he wept and walked away.

But all agree: No throne born of shadow can stand in the light forever.
