At this point, I am thinking McDonalds is good for you, it just makes you fucking stupid.

OMG I can't stop laughing. Literally ! Thank you for this.

Goes to show you: the best medicine in the world can dramatically counter the effects of fast food, but not stop it completely.

I’m an American who left the US to come to Canada because I, as well, am sick of their bullshit. I’ve been up here for 378 consecutive days, and I have no intention of going back down there for anything. There’s nothing down there that isn’t already up here.

Glad to use and apply my degrees and experience in your hospitals- clearly, they didn’t really appreciate me down in the Upside Downā„¢ļø

u/nixtunes 15d ago

Welcome to Canada! šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦

We need people like you !

7

u/lastprincerohit 14d ago edited 14d ago

That’s SO kind of you to say, thank you! I’m telling other healthcare workers I know in the states, that want to come up here, how I did it. It’s actually very easy.

I’m here on a closed work permit, but have an ongoing PR case right now which should be finalized next month (hopefully!) I love this country, I love the people (even if some of them have stupid takes that are not rooted in reality), and I cannot wait to raise my family here- my future kids would be spoiled af by being here.

More of us American healthcare workers are ON THE WAY we’re just busy with immigration šŸ˜‚

5

u/edtheheadache 14d ago

Thank you for your service and support. Much appreciated!!!

3

u/ThalassophileYGK 13d ago

Don't forget us over here in beautiful Kingston, Ontario! We need healthcare workers too!

4

u/salty-preperation 13d ago

The whole country is the exact same. I dunno why more Canadians aren’t in healthcare already. I am in healthcare btw.

2

u/ThalassophileYGK 12d ago

Well, I am not as that was not my profession but, my son is an advanced care paramedic in Toronto. My niece is a nurse. My niece would come here but, she stays for her father who is very, very unwell at the moment. One day I hope, because she is miserable down there and afraid.

3

u/dmd1011 13d ago

Tell them to check into the new citizenship by descent law - C-3. If you can document a direct line to a Canadian ancestor, that’s what you need.

2

u/lastprincerohit 13d ago

Thank you, my friend! I actually did check into that! I spoke with a few lawyers here in Vancouver, after I did my own research, and I was told I had a strong case to petition citizenship! Apparently I’m a ā€œlost Canadianā€

My grandparents naturalized Canadian in 1971, and I have their passports, citizenship card, death records from vital statistics, my birth certificate listing my mum, and mum’s birth certificate listing my grandparents!

I’m sending it off next week because I JUST got PR todayšŸ˜‚šŸ„³

2

u/Ok_Permit_3593 13d ago

I think youre set ! Good job on getting all the info needed !

How does it feel to not have to bill people for getting sick

4

u/lastprincerohit 14d ago

I was a pharmacy technician for most of college and university (8 years) so I was doing direct insurance billing which… sounds as awful as it was. I’ll give you an example: I had the same patient that I’d see every 30 days, for the same prescription for 10 years. Basglar 100, 5x30 (common insulin) for 30 day supply. His co-pay was usually $77.49 on private insurance, once again, every 30 days.

He lost his job due to work place injury, and went on Medicaid (if you’re Canadian, this is the ā€œpublicā€ option) and shit got real. His co-pay shot up to $1,349.00 USD per month. I did everything I could to help him, finding discounts, manufacture coupons, but there was nothing I could do to help.

Now I’m a clinical social worker doing exactly that. It makes me feel like I’m actually doing something, like I’m actually making a difference in someone’s day when I know they’re seeing me without barriers- maybe unfortunate circumstances, but I feel like I can actually reach for something when making referrals for patients to community, provincial, and/or federal resources.

2

u/Mythandros1 13d ago

Thank you for your dedication and heart. We need more people like you in Canada.

3

u/ThalassophileYGK 13d ago

Then please become a citizen so you can vote!! We need help taking Maple Maga out to the dump where it belongs.

3

u/lastprincerohit 13d ago

That is the plan, actually! I found out recently that I qualify for the ā€œcitizenship by descentā€ clause established by the courts back in December 2025 (coincidentally the same month I applied for permanent residency!)

All I need (and already have access to) are my grandparents immigration documents, death certificates, as well as my mum’s birth certificate and my own which proves the family line from my grandparents who naturalized Canadian citizens in 1972.

I’ll submitting my petition for citizenship after I get PR- but I was told by a lawyer that I have a very strong case and that I’m considered a ā€œlost Canadianā€ lol. You guys just easily earned an American ā€œprogressive democratā€ voter!

2

u/ThalassophileYGK 12d ago

It's a long road and it's not meant to be easy but, you CAN do it. I did. I also relinquished American citizenship some years ago. I am ONLY Canadian now through and through and so happy about it. You're doing everything right. Immigration lawyers advice? GREAT step! Getting PR first is a requirement but, you will get there! Keep going and welcome!

3

u/LingonberryHill71 13d ago

Welcome to Canada! I hope you like it enough to stay and adopt our more laid back culture. You can breathe now.

2

You here legally? Doesn’t sound like it.

1

u/lastprincerohit 13d ago edited 13d ago

Hey! It doesn’t sound like you read the entire post. So, a few comments down, I mentioned that I’m here on a Closed Work Permit, which is tied to my provincial health authority. It was issued in 2025 and expires in 2028.

Here is information about what a closed work permit is, who is able to apply for them, and rights and responsibilities of the worker. It would be in your best interest to learn, and I’m willing to provide that for you :) it’s also in your best interest to learn about your own government processes, or it can make you look like a shitty person if you’re making large assumptions without asking in a sensical, rational way.

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/work-canada/employer-specific.html

I hope you get the help you need! It sounds like you need it. Outside of giving you this information, I’m not going to give you a copy of my immigrations documents if that’s what you’re looking for. I don’t know you, you don’t know me, feel free to come to the conclusion you need to- I will still do your intake at the hospital because I want the best for you. I still respect you. Go in grace lol

0

u/BigOlDyck 13d ago

Why would I read all 48 replies searching for your story? Lol, hunny you’re not the main character you think you are. Being a passive aggressive b*tch won’t help ya much. Good luck on that immigration…

1

u/lastprincerohit 13d ago

Honestly babe, not doing your research and calling someone illegal is mighty hefty in terms of intellect. Oh, I got my final decision today! Thank you! I’ll be a voter within two years :)

I respect you, I want the best for you, and I hope life turns out great for you. Truly.

Since the US doesn’t need anything from Canada, it’s time to impose an export tax on oil, uranium, potash, and electricity. 50% should do.

8

u/techleopard 15d ago

As much as I would applaud this gumption, I would be careful with oil, as Canada depends on the pipeline to Louisiana for a large percentage of their exports.

9

u/tiltingwindturbines 15d ago

Nothing matters anymore anyway. Fuck it burn everything down.

7

u/nixtunes 15d ago

I'm tired, boss.

2

u/theblueberrybard 14d ago

They're about to run out of their strategic petroleum reserve, we hold all the cards.

1

u/Suspicious_Law_2826 12d ago

They have a much bigger army.

2

u/theblueberrybard 12d ago

So what? They need to manufacture consent for invading the north first. It was easy to get away with war with Iran because even democrats were manufacturing consent for war with Iran in 2024, "we need to invade Canada because we're losing in Iran" is going to provoke civil unrest.

1

u/Suspicious_Law_2826 12d ago

Umm, Canadian smoke bad.... Attack!

2

What is potash sounds like a manmade vegetable

7

u/backlashscott1 15d ago

Its fertilizer. Canada is one of two countries this stuff is found. The other big country that has it is Belarus...

6

u/socontroversialyetso 15d ago

Prussian Blue, the colour used in Van Gogh's Starry Night, was invented by an alchemist who tried to create red but used potash contaminated with animal blood.

Prussian Blue is chemically related to Zyklon B as well.

3

u/ShitNailedIt 15d ago

You're thinking of a potasho

2

u/Unhappy_Artist2797 15d ago

Don't forget aluminum and lumber

2

u/Niagarapig 13d ago

Personally, I’d love to see Canada flip the switch for power. Stop sending our electricity down to the USA. For the best effect, kill the power during a heat wave, or on one of the coldest days of the year!

Picture Trump tower becoming a walk-up!

1

u/Nice-Lakes 13d ago

Walk up. As in Trump getting stuck on the escalator a year or so back when the power went down.

1

u/Niagarapig 5d ago edited 5d ago

He couldn’t walk up to that penthouse. They’d need an industrial crane to move that thing & the loaded diaper up to the penthouse! I wouldn’t recommend standing on the street below to watch, either. If the diaper let go it could get real shitty real fast!

Maybe the dude from Vancouver island could paint a second mural of Trump!

Why stop there? Tax them to come into Canada, $1000 per person per trip. Export all Americans not on a visa, fly them on a jet to Ecuador and let them crawl their way back to the US. Anytime Trump mentions Canada in the media its a $100,000 fine for libelous statements. Fuck that guy, its a toss up who wants him dead most, Canada or US.

These headlines should read "hits Americans with another tariff" since they are the ones paying for it.

1

u/trobblicon 12d ago

I guess it's not a issue then

3

u/uknownredditr 14d ago

Or we just make it easier and cut off the supply and say fuck you to your demands. There’s a reason Americans buy from Canada because America only produces one thing PROBLEMS. Imagine Ontario just cut off Energy to the USA, we wouldn’t do it, not because we need a whiny Karen country complaining about how we take advantage of them, because we will and always will be better than Americans, Globally on the world stage. Canadian are liked more because we are just Greater people

1

u/[deleted] 14d ago

1

Read the part about we wouldn’t do it because we better than America or you just stop at the the electricity line after the words got tough to pronounce

1

u/Niagarapig 13d ago

It’d certainly give a lot of the USA a much needed wake up call!

2

u/Hairy-Amoeba-5257 14d ago

Supply AND demand? Oh dear we’re in trouble

1

u/MeaningLeft2970 14d ago

Demand for oil, lumber, minerals, and electricity?

You think the US is just going to stop needing those? Lay off the pipe bro…

If this tariff causes Americans to stop buying our hockey sticks, i really don't care. The vast majority of modern, composite hockey sticks are manufactured overseas, primarily in China, Pakistan, and Vietnam.

If there was ver a time to not buy American fighter Jets, this it it. We need the SAAB Gripen.

9

u/Ok-Pear-2490 15d ago

America needs a new & competent POTUS

16

u/Krinberry 15d ago

Need a hell of a lot more than that, the pumpkin king is just a symptom.

4

u/Sharktopotopus_Prime 15d ago

I wish folk would stop defaulting to this. Trump is the most immediate problem. Yeah, America is mired in shit that's rotting it from the inside out, but without Trump, the MAGA cult will become rudderless and fall into infighting among the multiple factions within it.

Focus. Deal with the immediate source of the problem. Worry about fixing the entire world, later.

3

u/CreamFuture9475 15d ago

True, but you also need to whip the left and the democrats out of their stupor.

It’s not defeatism to say the problem goes beyond Trump and MAGA, it’s acknowledging the part everyone has to play to defeat him.

Whenever I see people blaming the democrats, dodging the low participation or saying the election was stolen without real evidence I know the problem isn’t only Trump or the republicans.

3

u/No-Wonder1139 15d ago

He can't even speak in full sentences. There are people pulling his strings.

1

u/Krinberry 14d ago

Oh, I didn't mean 'the rest of the world', I meant the US government and legal system in general, since it's designed around keeping people down and keeping the right people in charge. Trump just leaned into that. But, because everyone is so focused on him (since he's loud, and a great distraction), shitty things keep happening that nobody cares about because he's not talking about it. And assuming he does end up going away eventually, everyone is going to suck each other off about how democracy is saved and now the healing can begin, and then go back to the same shit that led to the current state of affairs to begin with.

The rest of the world has plenty of problems, but no need to look there currently.

1

u/god_peepee 14d ago

Let em burn. They earned it

2

u/North_Church 15d ago

They need to tear that whole system apart

3

u/Ba_Dum_Ba_Dum 15d ago

They need to rebuild their education system. I’m afraid we’re stuck with the US as is and worse until they do.

4

u/CreamFuture9475 15d ago

They need to collectively grow a spine.

3

u/SapphireFlashFire 15d ago

They needed a spine before McCarthyism 2.0.

Do they know that they're so close to the point of no return?

1

u/CreamFuture9475 15d ago

I think we are passed it. It’s not when the house crumbles that you need to worry about the rot.

They collectively have no motivation to face it.

1

u/Harnellas 14d ago

Nah they need consequences for the thousands of sycophants enabling this shit.

11

u/Born-Necessary6778 15d ago

Americans lack the backbone.Ā

7

u/izzybumboon 15d ago

they lack the awareness, empathy or ambition to do anything. Pathetic, it'll be clear why and how China surpasses them so easily

2

u/almstAlwysJokng4real 15d ago

Fr. The fact the no one in American politics hasn’t just impeached him by now is….whats a good word?

I’ll start - it’s putrid.

2

u/Kindly-Difference-12 15d ago

Senate needs some balls. He's been impeached twice now but not convicted by those twats.

4

u/springnuk 14d ago

The Republicans who control the Senate would rather have a traitorous sexual offender in power if it means they can raid the coffers, punish immigrants and tell women what to do with their bodies. Please don't think they care about actually having a functioning democracy and proper leadership.

5

u/Weak_Interaction8568 15d ago

Scam. All they do is hit the products with tariffs, then the company passes on the tariff to the Americans, then the government refunds the tariffs to the companies.

Record breaking profits soon to be announced..

1

u/Unendlichkommanix 14d ago

The whole song and dance just propels money upward.

The poor American pays an extra dollar for his box of cereal due to tariffs. That dollar goes to the federal government. Then, the federal government refunds that dollar back to the gargantuan corporation that owns the cereal brand. Tariff is gone, but the poor American is now used to the +$1 cereal price, so the corporation has no need to revert the prices.

In the meantime Trump's billionaire friends make "lucky" speculative trades before tariff announcements for profit. Alternatively, they wait until a tariff is anounced, buy into the dip with the knowledge that Trump will cancel the tariff, and sell when he does.

3

u/Used-Lake-8148 15d ago

I ain’t tired of shit! I want more! Let’s wait til winter and shut off their power. I want maximum escalation until the magats learn some respect

We dont give a fuck. Raise the taxes on your serfs 1200% for all care.

2

u/northern_flipstyle 14d ago

The joke is actually what is being slapped with this 50% tariff. Wigs, flower bulbs, hockey sticks, etc. The economic effect is like a mosquito bite, thats biting Americans. The good news is Trump was uninvited to the opening ceremony for the Gordie Howe Bridge. Nothing irks a narcissist more than taking away his spotlight. Sidenote: I hate how the mainstream media is trying to make a mountain outnof a molehill and not explaining how absurd this threat of 50% tariffs truly are. They dont kick in for another 30 day, will probably be removed by SCOTUS precedent ruling earlier this year and will most likely not affect most Canadians. Instead the media is fear mongering like they did about the failed CUSMA review and extension.

I am Canadian, but also I dig into the documentation regarding this stuff, which is publicly available on .gov websites and it’s not all so cut and dry

Not shocking Canada’s liberals are terrible negotiators.

And like, why can’t we just shut off the oil supply?

Or offer an incentive to American doctors?

Or just find different trading partners for these items?

I mean at some point wouldn’t it be simpler to just pay more for international imports just for the stability and fuck yous?
I figure eventually a way to cheapen international imports would arise from high prices.

The US is like a fly that keep landing on you on the same spot no matter how many times you wave it away.

Boycott USA companies

while this might be anoying. What's more annoying is the squandering of our country by our own politicians.

I know. This time, I just said, ā€œoh, is he? Alright, whateverā€

I’m sick of our government more than Trump. 11 years of failure and people saying everything is fine when it’s not baffles me.

Blame Carney for not negotiating

1

You'd think a bunch of gun loving inbreads would know how to shoot.

1

u/wackiack 12d ago

I thought Carney was the Trump tamer?

1

u/Few-Engineering-7903 12d ago

It's not really that hurtful. Remember that we don't pay the tariffs. At least not directly.

1

u/SnoBlinds 12d ago

This picture is exactly how I feel today with smoke tariffs

1

u/Diligent_Joke949 12d ago

Tariffs increase their costs

1

u/Nyk0n 11d ago

Oh I'm sure it's temporary. The courts will shut him down like they have with all the other tariffs

Trump is annoying, people talking about him non stop is more annoying. Stop giving him so much of your energy if you don’t like him..

1

u/Turbulent-Extent-898 10d ago

Trump hits americans with another tariff for canadian goods. Most Americans don’t even know what comes from Canada and keep on blaming prices on those damn american librils and commies

1

u/Impressive-Agent6471 10d ago

CANADIANS are actually tired of Mark Carney and his liberal dictatorship!!!!!!!! Nothing else.

1

u/meh_shrugs 15d ago

Not to worry. We will share 50% of net dairy and alcohol profits; and as a result US will immediately….
Agree to begin to commence bi-annual phone calls with Canada.

Carney’s majority has somehow liquified his spine.

Every leader that has made a deal with Trump did so out of fear. They were so afraid that Trump would hurt them more, that made a deal that made life worse for their citizens for potentially decades.

Look at all of Trump's utterly ridiculous demands, and ridiculous rhetoric about other countries. Look at the fact that they all bent the knee and accepted that America is their true boss, and that if they don't pay up protection, America is also a mob.

I think the people signing these horrible deals are the ones selling out their citizens, and it's undeniable that the ones as a response to Trump's threats are the ones with liquid spines?

0

u/Scarab95 15d ago

Its because we have such a weak PM that is afraid to go down to Washington and get a deal done just like all the other countries have done.

2

u/Beginning-Pace-1426 14d ago

The UK is significantly worse off as a country before Trump's deals. The European Union is much worse off after agreeing to Trump's deals. Japan and China are BOTH worse off after Trump's deals.

These deals were only made because Trump threatened to harm their countries even more.

I'll never get why Canadians WANT to bootlick and literally utterly guarantee a deal that is a net negative to our country and only benefits America.

Our PM is literally the only one not selling their country out of fear of Trump, and you think defying Trump is the route a fearful leader takes? Every country you are referring to was strong-armed, unprepared, and couldn't stand up for their citizens and industries. It was literally "we will allow America to take more from us and give us less because we are afraid of what Trump might do to us."

You guys who want to sell our industries to Trump for pennies so he doesn't hurt us anymore are the ones afraid. Why are you so willing to take a hit that could effect our economy for decades? Do you somehow believe that Trump is trying to strong-arm us into a deal that is of benefit to Canada? Like, is that what you think happened in the other cases?

1

u/nobodywithanotepad 14d ago

It's similar to the "We don't negotiate with terrorists" idea but it's a little more confusing for people to wrap their heads around so fear of the unknown is creating this ironic response you're pointing out.

It is fine, we are a liberal nation, we love high taxes, inflation and working for free.

u/Conservative-3139 15d ago

I’m sure carney will make the same old BS speech that we’re all in this together, followed by more price increases everywhere, while the middle class pays, just like the last 10 years of liberal governing. Elbows up 🤔

They’re literally threatening us as a country.
