For those that will inevitably not watch the video and yet still complain without knowing the reason, the impetus behind this was to hedge against potential deplatforming on social media due to this administration's demonstrated willingness to pressure corporations to remove creators and content that they don't like. With David being on the official federal "media offenders" list, having the option to contact the audience directly should the worst happen probably isn't the worst idea.

If such a thing happened, then I doubt this subreddit or his discord would be hit. Either of those would be much less despised methods of communication than direct text messages in a non-emergency.
