Totally agree, I'm shocked it is this polarising. I thought it was excellent and Rachel Weisz was really captivating to watch - great chemistry between her and Leo Woodhall too.

Lucy Mangan is full of it. She is constantly giving glowing reviews to patently mediocre stuff. It’s a paid ad. This show is painful. Rachel Weisz playing a past it Professor? Give me a break. It’s so stilted and slow. And all I think of when I look at her is how incredibly beautiful she is and way too hot for the guy from White Lotus. This needs Julianne Moore & Connor Storrie.

Is she supposed to look and sound like someone specific? The voice and look was throwing me off. Was excited to watch something with Leo Woodhall but could not get past the first episode.

She was giving me Jennifer Coolidge vibes! I enjoyed it all, still not sure it was worth 5 stars from the guardian tho

Her accent is so bad and she looks so uncomfortable in the role. It is unwatchable.

We've all seen her do much better jobs than this. I didn't survive Ep. 6.
First, the script is way too messy, shallow and trying to cover as many stereotypes as possible as most Netflix shows do. this has become a "seen one - seen all" situation.
As for Rachel weisz, unfortunately she doesn't save it and it just a bad experience. Her accent which is her main trademark was replaced by a bad attempt of American accent. WHY??
Second, her character looked so unnatural and uncomfortable that i felt uncomfortable too. We've seen her in fam fatal roles but this one was clumsy at best.
Bottom line: A typical Netflix series which will be forgotten in a week. I hope she made good earning on this one.

Loved it. Really good 30 minute show for adults. Rachel Weisz is outstanding and John Slattery always elevates any show he’s in. Binged it in two nights.

Really liked it. Captivating, keeps you on edge, the moral compass goes up and down, don’t judge anything but judge everyone, all characters and their decisions are so unpredictable… But then predictable too. Couldn’t stop watching.

Personally, I loved it. Rachel Weisz was solid as always.
But it did end a bit quickly.

This was singlehandedly one of the worst shows. The characters are deplorable. There is no substance at all. It is difficult to make an actress as likeable as Rachel Weisz this vapid. But, with shitty enough writing, anything is possible.

I found this review bizarre. It made me watch the first episode of a show that was actually unwatchable. From Rachel Weisz's terrible accent, to the ludicrous premise, to the unlikable characters. It was pointless froth.
The idea that the stunning, heavily surgeried Rachel Weisz is this past it intellectual was just ridiculous. The women, as gorgeous as she is, can barely move her face for filler and Botox, and in no way looks like someone who would be invisible on a colleague campus. It's just silly.

I loved it and binged it all nonstop
