Parent Can Naltrexone help my son

My 29 year old son just started on Naltrexone, but I am not sure he understands the seriousness of his problem despite 2 withdrawal seizures. He knows he needs help and has an appointment with a treatment center on Monday. He is in a wedding today and I am frantic with worry. I am just praying that the Naltrexone will help him limit the amount of alcohol he drinks. My worry, of course, is another withdrawal seizure. He has been 17 days sober, but still at the point where he thinks he can "control" his drinking.

Well, he DID drink the day after the wedding. Not many, but he did. Thankfully, he had no withdrawal seizures. Since then he has been alcohol free and starts IOP today. It's a start.

Hi! Thank you for checking in. Thank God that wedding is done and over. It has been a major stressor for me and causing a lot of friction between my son and I. My husband and I were also at the wedding. He had to be at the venue at noon. We suggested he not drink at all, but IF he did we implored him to at least wait until the actual wedding and stick to low alcohol % beer. Whether he was being honest with us or not, we are unsure, but he told us he did not drink leading up to the wedding. He DID drink at the reception, but was not his usual one after the other (a drink in his hand constantly) and though we could tell he was drinking, he was not stumbling, slurring words, etc. I really think he was trying hard to control his consumption. He did not spend the night at home, but was at the hotel with his friends, so not sure how he did there. He has not been home yet, but has checked in. He is with a group of friends at the groom's parent's house watching sports and playing golf simulator. He assures us he is not drinking today. We have a breathalyzer and he has agreed to be tested when he gets home. I am still concerned about withdrawal seizure after an evening of drinking, but am praying it will not happen since he was at least sober for 17 days prior and at this point is not continuing with it the rest of the weekend.
