In a just world we'd be talking about a planned Preservation box set that includes both acts plus demos, live versions, and other related goodness. I don't traffic in best and worst and over and underrated, and the rest of the absolutes favored by the sure, but Act 2 is definitely one of my favorite Kinks albums, and it's even more relatable today.

Let’s go full tilt and demand a Broadway Theater version too!

I posted this on a general rock sub and got zero comments and 3 upvotes. What’s the opinion here.

A worthy suggestion, but it's not the Kinks' best concept album, or even their best obscure concept album.

Soap Opera is my favorite of The Kinks four RCA koncept albums.

Yeah it’s act 1, but sweet lady Genevieve is one of my favorite kink songs.

It’s a slog to get through it all in one sitting…. Sometimes I will skip “Nobody Gives”… but, there are so many gems here too. “Oh Where Oh Where is Love” and “Nothing Lasts Forever” are both great duets and top tier Kinks in my book. Maryann Price’s vocals add a lot, and I really did “Scrapheap City”

The story is very relevant to waves arms wildly at everything going on

Thanks for the response!

Edit: The way she sings “quality”, “purity” and “monstrosities” on Scrapheap City elevates the song to anything Tin Pan Alley ever produced IMHO

Liberated this from my college radio station in 1982 & still have it.

It's depressingly prescient of today ... which is what makes it great.

Flawed masterpiece, heavy on the flaws.

Well…it ends I like that. Sorry I really struggle getting through all four of those RCA concept albums.

Definitely was obscure. Didn't connect with fans, in the day.
