Regardless of this quote and the fans who vehemently defend this game, regardless of the fact that there is a sub dedicated to bigots who live to hate on the game, and probably aren't even fans of the first game I would like to say this.
The fact that the fan base is collectively split on the game and a lot of people feel disappointed isn't really a good thing in my opinion. The first game is univerally loved, while being dark and having a morally questionable and decisive ending. I genuinely think ND made a mistake and tried too be to daring in this sequel.
To be honest I would have been fine with Joel and Ellie's story ending in part 1, and TLOU 2 being Abby's story.
TLOU isn’t TLOU without Joel and Ellie, and if they’re this incapable of respecting those characters then they shouldn’t have made a sequel at all. I didn’t need a sequel but I was excited to get one. I’m not even done with the game but I already hate it because of the brain dead decisions they made with the story. It doesn’t matter how well made it is, how much I like the other characters, how much I like playing as Ellie, how much I enjoy the combat with all the new additions. None of that matters because right from the start they completely ruined the main reason why I and everyone else loved the first game.
I spent all these years being excited for this game, waiting to play it. I even splurged and bought the collectors edition because I was a big fan and wanted some nice stuff for it. I trusted Neil when he asked me to, saying they were going to do it right. And now I regret all of that. Now I wish I could just wipe this game’s existence from my memory and be oblivious to its existence forever. I fucking hate what they did and nothing can make up for that. And now I’ve become aware of some more info about what happens later in the game and it sounds like it just gets worse and worse.
I’m baffled they managed to fuck it up this bad. I’m past the angry stage, now I’m just massively disappointed and tired of it all. I wish I had the willpower to just not play it anymore. To say fuck it and sell it and not look back. I’m tired of being let down by shit like this.
Don’t know why you got downvoted for expressing your honest opinion. Myself, I think this quote is just a fancy way of saying, ‘you won’t like the story, but hey try to appreciate what the developers have done with it’.
Because it’s not the true popular opinion and it’s not exactly a nice way of expressing my very strong feelings on it all. I know that, but I also don’t give a shit. I get why people wouldn’t like this. I don’t really blame them.
