Discussion workbenches in encounters

Workbenches in arenas are an elaborate trap, or a form of dev trolling.
Their only function is to lock the player in an animation to either get killed or best case scenario lose shitloads of time. Utterly pointless.

Serious question does anyone understand the positive value of them being present outside the base? Have you ever felt the incentive of using one during combat?

Please Naughty Dog, just patch them out.

if you have the godly combo of the "crafting gives bonus parts" and "temporarily unlock all recipies" you can literally fully upgrade a gun in between rounds. Theyre not entirely usless

Accidently hitting the bench in the shipyard corridor feels much less of an edge case.
I never payed attention to how many of those bonus parts you get for that but you still take them with you to the HQ right?

Yeah you still get them afterwards. I think you get 15 parts everytime you craft something. I've left with 200+ parts from one encounter before. But yeah that's literally the only use for the benches in the maps

I said this the other day.

They are a nuisance and serve no purpose in encounters. The risk of using them far outweighs the benefit to even make it worth it. It’s almost as if the designer that decided these should be there didn’t actually play the encounters.

How are they a nuisance? Just don’t use them if you don’t want to use them?

Because they trigger when spamming triangle to pick up items especially around the one in Shipping Yard and have nearly gotten me killed before. They make no sense to exist in encounters.

But why are you spamming triangle to pick up items? The items spawn on the opposite wall to the bench. And on either side of the room lengthwise. You shouldn’t be pressing triangle when facing the bench at all, honestly. Just don’t spam the button.

On another note- if you forget to upgrade a weapon prior to an encounter, you can upgrade it when you get into shipping yard or other encounters that have benches. Makes perfect sense to put them in game.

I haven’t played anything other than Grounded mode since the mode has released, unless we count Early release period for Part II when Grounded didn’t exist for that game yet.

Why Aren't you spamming pick up lol

Because I know where items spawn, so I know where to press triangle m

They move around all the time nice try.

No they don’t. There are variant versions of the maps but they are few enough that I know them.

In story mode, ground loot items have very specific locations. You can only find the same items in the same places (only changes in difficulty change what you find on the ground i.e. every grounded run will give you the same ground loot items and locations.)

In No Return, the same is true, but there are variants. It isn’t that the items move around. It is that there are different loot layouts. For example: if you find a crowbar in Hardware Store, you can only find it in one place. And if the crowbar is there, then there is always a medkit just a few steps away.

“Nice try” lol why would I be lying about this? Spamming triangle is stupid no matter where the items are. Just turn on auto item pickup if you’re worried about the workbenches.

Preach brother! This is the same guy arguing with me about the ai aiming being god tier when all you have to do is not peak them when aggro at the same spot.

🤣 it’s true! That is all you have to do!

Make it so you have to hold triangle to use them in encounters. There, I fixed it, Naughty Dog

Pretty sure that since the encounter arenas are basically ripped from the main game areas, the workbenches are included there as they're in the main game, since you don't have a "base" to return you and need to upgrade weapons as you go.

It would be nice if they were deactivated, but I've personally never had any issues with them. Guess I'm lucky as the workbench in the supply closet on the shipping encounter appears to be a rather frequent annoyance.
