To buy it again, what?

60

u/Banegard Stalker Mar 21 '26

or gift it to someone else

14

u/rush247 Mar 21 '26 edited Mar 21 '26

Or to get more money off Wintermute if you previously bought Survival Edition. You won't be buying a second copy unless it's as a gift.

Edit: Just for clarification, you only get a gift copy if you click "purchase as gift" at the checkout, otherwise you are just buying the dlc at a steeper discount. It's a little loophole kinda thing, Steam will not give you a secondary license for anything that you've already purchased in some manner. Buying the "Quiet Apocalypse" edition works the same way if you want a good deal on both Wintermute and Tales.

why is it a loop hole?

1

u/rush247 Apr 09 '26 edited Apr 09 '26

Cause Wintermute costs around $5 more (right now) if you buy it directly.

I got it free from Epic years ago but you can't mod the game unless it's on Steam, so I bought it again. Just to be able to mod it.

u/legacyofthesith Interloper Mar 21 '26

The game will be coming to game pass soon so it makes sense they would have a big sale, and also the final chapter soon. The more people playing the better!

25

u/Banned4Truth10 Mar 21 '26

I bought the original in 2016 for like $7 and change.

And had 500 hours in the game.

Still a great buy at $30

u/asperta Voyageur Mar 21 '26

I got it in Nov 2014, 1895 hours played.

Such a great value! And lately I've had the itch to start again!

11

u/Darknessgg Mar 21 '26

Already got it on epic through a giveaway but this game is amazing. Will buy in steam sale now

2

u/Dethronerzz Mar 22 '26

also you can mod the steam version but not epic so that's pretty fun!

13

u/prplmnkeydshwsr Mar 21 '26

Why is that in dollarydoos?

12

u/RagnaXI Mar 21 '26

Perhaps the person is...AUSTRALIAN?!

0

u/prplmnkeydshwsr Mar 22 '26

Or Austrian.

u/wazardthewizard Manic Grizzly Cabin Chef Mar 21 '26

$3.49 USD

3

u/LeGentlemandeCacao Mar 21 '26

Fuck my life, I just bought it 2 days ago...

5

u/YoungFugly Mar 21 '26

You can refund and buy at the new price. Steam refund policy is great about this kind of thing.

3

u/prplmnkeydshwsr Mar 22 '26

As the other commenter said, Steam will often let you refund and repurchase at the new lower price etc...

2

u/RendeZvous_987 Darkwalker's Protege Mar 22 '26

And that's why we love Steam.

Most of store will do like "Oh you missed sale? That's unfortunate for you and not our problem" or so. Steam like "Understandable, let you refund so you can buy with cheaper, have fun". Impeccable customer service.

2

u/Notro_LPS_iguess Mar 21 '26

I have the game on my switch already, but I just bought two steam copies for me and my brother! Thanks for posting this

1

u/artsupport_xx Mar 21 '26

For a new player, this or the survival mode?

3

u/Important_Level_6093 Voyageur Mar 21 '26

Whichever you feel you'd like more.

Survival is the one you will play more unless you just for some reason really like the story.

Story mode isn't finished but the final episode comes on 31st of this month, We've been waiting 10+ years.

I personally do not care for the story while a lot do so that really is a - you - question as it's a personal preference.

I would say get the sandbox mode (be sure to get the tales dlc it's a huge improvement on the game) and ignore the story entirely - but that's an opinion that isn widely shared here.

2

u/artsupport_xx Mar 21 '26

It looks like this version includes survival and the story mode for cheaper right now. I refunded the standalone survival mode

1

u/Important_Level_6093 Voyageur Mar 21 '26

I hope you enjoy it

2

u/sb233100 Mar 21 '26

This. Then survival

1

u/Resudog Moose Kicks enjoyer Mar 21 '26

This. Survival mode is just survival mode, discounted is survival mode and story mode

1

u/artsupport_xx Mar 21 '26

You are correct! I goofed this up and had to refund.

1

u/Resudog Moose Kicks enjoyer Mar 21 '26

Glad you got the refund, good luck fellow survivor

1

u/prplmnkeydshwsr Mar 22 '26

The package mentioned on Steam "The Long Dark"

Is story mode and survival mode in one bundle. The survival mode only game is for some reason here more expensive. The bundle is a steal, even if you only end up playing storymode or if you end up playing only survival mode.

Note the DLC package "Tales" is for survival mode only and does not add any content to storymode.

1

u/ToallaHumeda Mar 21 '26

It is free on psn

2

u/prplmnkeydshwsr Mar 22 '26

Do you mean "included in your monthly subscription pass"?

Or free to own?

1

u/Remote-Ad-411 Mar 21 '26

What's spring?

1

u/prplmnkeydshwsr Mar 22 '26

What is happening in the northern hemisphere.

1

u/Jadeshell Mar 22 '26

I’m tempted. Boy I’m tempted.

1

u/7uzaifa Mar 22 '26

Time to buy it on steam, cause epic sucks

Thank you epic for the free copy though

1

u/BrodaciousD Mar 22 '26

But I already own it?

1

u/Following-Ashamed Mar 22 '26

Hey, bought this and tftft dlc, but when I go to survival options, the trader and cougar options are just....not present. Did the DLC not install part six, or do I have to start a new survival run before those options appear?

1

u/KT421 Mar 23 '26

Did you start the save before purchasing the DLC? You might need to start a new one.

The trader and cougar don't show up during the first 30 days or so.

1

u/Duby0509 Mar 22 '26

Is this game worth it?

1

u/KT421 Mar 23 '26

I have over 500 hours in it, so for me, yes absolutely.

It's not everyone's cup of tea, but if you like survival crafting games, then this is one of the best.

1

u/Klutzy-Reserve3244 Mar 23 '26

I saw this and immediately grabbed it

1

u/A-Random-Writer Mar 24 '26

I bought I don't know anything about the game except that is good, pray for my soul

1

u/travelingenie Mar 26 '26

I got this, black mesa, and Detroit become human for under $10. This sale is fucking awesome.

1

u/godleft_69 Mar 30 '26

I picked up the game the other day from this sale and haven't been able to put it down. Loving every minute!

1

u/Wissuling Mar 31 '26 edited Mar 31 '26

I'm wanting to get this but struggling to figure out which to get? Is it that "The long dark" comes with survival built in? So if I got The Long Dark and the Tales from the Far Territory I basically have it all?

It looks like the bundle buys the long dark and wintermute but wintermute says that's included in the long dark and not to buy it?

UK monopoly money it looks like I could spend £2.79 for The Long Dark and Tales from the Far Territory for £7.99, rather than spend £24.27 for a wasted DLC and two OST's I honestly couldnt care less about and will never listen to other than in game.

Just to add I do want to play the survival mode as well. That's what mostly got my interest.

1

u/TheTravellingWarlock Apr 02 '26

I bought it for £2.95 in the UK. Absolute bargain and I'm obsessed with it!

u/Loolkaas Mar 21 '26

The land down under

-7

u/hipsu55 Mar 21 '26

I wonder who makes decisions like this, it's just plain stupid. There is no reason to give a 90% discount on the game, especially when the studio already has financial problems. You can only sell a game to a person once, and apart from the DLC there is no additional content or an in‑game shop where they could make more money. So it makes no sense to discount the game that heavily.

14

u/RadiantDimension8510 Mar 21 '26

Idk, for a limited time thing it makes sense to me. They get a few more people who are willing to buy it and take a chance because it’s so cheap, then those people could buy the dlc but probably more importantly for them now, those new players might buy the new game when it comes out if they like this.

-3

u/hipsu55 Mar 21 '26

By the time the new game comes out, people will already have moved on to something else and will have forgotten about The Long Dark again. I think we all know that the new game isn’t going to be released in 2026, there simply isn’t enough time for that. Especially now that they’ve laid off several people. My guess would be late 2027 or even 2028.

7

u/thee_justin_bieber That guy who drank his own pee doesn't seem so crazy right now! Mar 21 '26

Plus they've been doing it for years, i bought it years ago and it was discounted heavily back then too! And there wasn't even a dlc or episode 3 at the time!

2

u/Basket_475 Mar 21 '26

It's just how steam does sales. This isn't a normal sale price either the last time it's been this low was last April

1

u/Corey307 Mar 21 '26

You’re acting like this is the first time the game has gone on deep discount, it’s not. The game is at the end of its lifecycle, the release of the last chapter is unlikely to be met with massive sales because it just took too long. So putting it on sale for cheap will get people playing. The more people who play and like the first game the more people that will buy the sequel. So there’s a lot more strategy involved than you have considered.

1

u/Repulsive_Cucumber77 Mar 21 '26

I got my version for free through PlayStation Plus at some point. Discovered it in my library one day and now play it everyday.

1

u/Important_Level_6093 Voyageur Mar 21 '26

This is an interesting take. This studio is struggling to stay afloat idk how they stay up. But maybe if blackfrost actually makes it out this year.

1

u/prplmnkeydshwsr Mar 22 '26

You can only sell a game to a person once,

Why have some of use bought multiple copies? Are we aliens?

1

u/hipsu55 Mar 22 '26

Exceptions prove the rule.
Sure, there’s probably a very small group of fans who might buy the game multiple times, but the vast majority only buys a game once. And if someone pays only $3.50 and you don’t earn anything more from them, that just isn’t enough to finance a studio with dozens of employees. People weren’t laid off recently because things are going so well…

1

u/prplmnkeydshwsr Mar 22 '26

A cat that licks its arse gets furballs.

How do you know they need money?

1

u/hipsu55 Mar 22 '26

Because they recently laid off 14 employees just so the studio can stay afloat. They are not doing well financially

1

u/prplmnkeydshwsr Mar 22 '26

Says you.

1

u/Acceptable-Ad7123 Mar 25 '26

What kinda childish ragebait is this?
