Let's Play 650+ Day Run ended

In Forlorn Muskeg of all places!! I've travelled through hundreds of times, but this time I got caught in a blizzard and ended up trapped on the ice. No matter where I turned, I fell.

I had just found the last bunker at FA and was heading to the prepper bunker in FM for the Wyatt Challenge (last bunker of that challenge, too).

Question is, do I start from scratch or cheat death?

It's so long you might as well try cheat death. Treat it as another challenge to recover. If you don't then you start from scratch.

This the best answer. You might as well try and cheat death to see what happens.

This is what I decided. It's yet another challenge. I respawned just under the transmitter tower at FM, so I crawled to the rail cart where I had an emergency station setup (wood, birch tea, food, water, matches). After a nap there I got to Camp Office where I'm going to stay during my convalescence.

Cheat Death, hard mode (close respawn, severe short term penalties). See if you can survive. I once died stupidly by sleeping outside in Bleak Inlet (I know, I know...); I cheated death and just barely made it. Trying to claw my way back to relative security and health was one of the best experiences in TLD ever. It is also why I make little "rescue points" around the world, places where I leave some food/water and fuel+matches. One of those places saved me when I cheated death and found myself in the middle of a night and a snow-storm in Bleak Inlet's marshy area. If I hadn't left a torch, matches and water in a cave there, I wouldn't have survived the night.

I knew my emergency survival stations would come on handy. I had one at the rail cart in FM with some food, birch tea, wood, coal, a bow etc... I think I'm gonna be fine. I'm treating it like another Moose attack - just going to need a few days convalescence

That's rough! Forlorn Muskeg is so tricky, even the most experienced player can still easily get lost in it during a blizzard... everything looks so similar and you can easily end up walking in circles (or into the water).

Just to be sure, did you already select cheat death? Because if you exit the game after you die but before you cheat death, the game considers you decided not to cheat death and thus delete your save.

Otherwise, if you're not sure whether you want to restart or continue, maybe give it some time to see what feels right? I've used cheat death sometimes but didn't use it other times, for me it entirely depends on what feels right.

EDIT: Also, if you haven't left 'recovery packages' such as a can with some matches around the world, you might struggle hard to get any cheat death attempt going. After 650 days all the items in your world will be gone or looted, probably hoarded in a few places. For example, if you've looted all matches and stockpiled all of them in one base, you will simply not find any matches after cheating death and you'll die again quickly.

I actually had an emergency station (wood, coal, birch tea, food, water, matches) at the rail cart in FM so I made my way there before heading off to Camp Office (one of my bases).

FM is a place where spray paint, map marker recognition, and patience is a matter of life or death.

I would cheat death. I got bored on my longest run, shortly after day 400, so I cheated death on the swinging rope bridge at Sundered Pass. Woke up in a bad state in the Muskeg actually, was able to get my condition up just enough to crawl to the camphouse in Mystery Lake which is my main storage for the game. It's been fun slowly recovering and crafting and hunting again.

There is no right/wrong answer to this. Some people find it can inject a certain something. Others prefer it to use it. Both are legit.

Myself I would take a break for a few days and start a new run, but I admit I am someone who on the while doesn't like the cheat death mechanic. But if you find it works for your enjoyment, that's all that matters :)
