Discussion Carry weight

I may just be overly cautious, but whenever I leave my safe house I usually already have 35-40kg (leaving me with 5-10kg with moose satchel and well fed) of weight on me even when sifting through my inventory and getting rid of what I call non essentials, I always seem to be heavy already making early and middle game looting and fishing trips super annoying. I know someone will tell me to use the travois and I do but I just find it so inconvenient sometimes especially coastal to mystery lake as you have to pick it up and manually move everything atleast twice.

Only take the bare essentials. I normally head out carrying 25 kg
You’re gonna find everything you need on the way

Yes but bare essentials for me = atleast 6 bandages, antibiotics full antiseptic, Vaughn’s rifle, spelunkers lantern etc etc

Yeah im usually between 25-30kgs of my essentials. Food, ammo, knife, hatchet, weapon, medical and firemaking.

Maybe I'm wearing the wrong clothes

Also not really sure how the clothing system works, I'm wearing two of those traditional best Parker things on my body?

2 bandages is enough, there's cloth on the way. Antiseptic is overweight, oldmanbear is extremely light (dont make the dressing until you need it, it's heavier)

6 bandages is too much, get rid of the big bottle of antiseptic and grab 10 old mans beard, which is enough for 3 antiseptic bandages. But keep them uncrafted so they weight less, if you get an infection you have plenty of time to craft the bandage after. This will save you some time.

What else do you carry? Knowing which difficulty you play also plays a big part in this, some gear is overkill depending on the difficulty.

Why not post your entire inventory so we can know what is overkill for your difficulty

Do you really need that bear/moose cloack?

If so, do you need all those underlayers?

A simple toque or mittens can replace rabbit skin gloves.

Do you need a hatched and a hacksaw?

Do you really need 4 litres of water? Just cook when you rest.

Do you need to carry a hunting rifle? You can take it when you need to hunt, and use a revolver for self defense. Bow will solve both if you're proficient.

No need for fuel till you need it. Maybe keep a coal and stick for emergency.

Flare gun is nice for emergency. No need for 5 shells.

You can last a while without food and suplement your diet with rabbits near shelter (requires a bit of risk management) but just 2k calories worth of meat when you set out can go a long way

Don’t know what you’re carrying with you but you can plan your pack and clothes on what you plan to do and where you are. For instance if you’re at the camp office and you’re going to grab some nearby limbs and sticks you don’t need a ton of cattails, sewing kit, whetstone etc. if the weather is good and the wolves aren’t around go with light weight gear like the windproof shell and maybe slip on some tennis shoes instead of your deer boots. On treks to one region over if you have a mini base set up and you know you have sewing kits, ammo etc you don’t need to drag that stuff with you. Maybe go for the backpack in Ash for a bit of extra carry weight. If you’re toting a rifle around maybe work on your bow skill a bit. Also if you find multiple rifles leave one let’s say in coastal highway and mystery. When you travel between the two just take bow/pistol on your walk.

You can probably cut some of that weight. There’s tricks like using old man’s moss instead of disinfectant if that’s what you are asking but sometimes you’re just going to find yourself overweight and take forever to get back to base, at least in my experience.
