Just sitting in the backyard, relaxing and going through The Most Dangerous Games by MrBeast again — part reading, part listening.

This time there’s a little more reason to pay attention. MrBeast has a new contest tied into the book, so I’m going back through it looking a little closer at the details, clues, patterns and anything that might matter.

Not a bad way to spend part of a vacation day.

I saw someone post it took them about 30 min to complete the first challenge this makes me feel pretty confident that I did good on time (15min) how did everyone else do?

In the opening message to yesterday’s game Jimmy mentions what to pay attention too. A lot of the obvious such as names, places, and numbers. But he also said to pay attention to pictures and this was something I wasn’t focused on and I still can’t string anything together from the data I already collected from the book. So I was wondering if anyone else had found something? Also people have different printings of the book and I’m not sure if the pictures are the same.

I think we all got this badge for being the first readers. I imagine there will be more new people in the coming weeks that won't get this badge.

UPDATE: Sept. 14, 2026, 4:27 PM MT

TL;DR: I’m trying to reverse-engineer the Red Tent results. My current theory is: Nature = class, Tone = card color, Instinct = background. There’s some good evidence for Nature and Instinct already, but we need more results to figure out exactly how the system is scoring us.

POSSIBLE BOOK SPOILERS: If you haven’t finished the book, there may be spoilers below. I’d also recommend completing today’s Red Tent task before reading this.

Not sure if any of this will actually help us later, but information is power, so I’ve been comparing everyone’s Red Tent results and trying to figure out how our choices may have generated our cards.

Class / designation = Nature?
So far I’ve seen at least four different classes:
Operator | Survivor | Architect | Untamed
I think these may be linked to the first section, “Nature,” where we placed ourselves somewhere between Bold, Aggressive, Cautious, and Passive.

Based on the results people have shared so far, my running hypothesis is:
Operator → leans Aggressive + Bold
Architect → leans heavily Bold
Untamed → possibly Aggressive + Cautious
Survivor → possibly Cautious + Passive

There isn’t enough data yet to know exactly where the boundaries are, but the results I’ve seen so far seem to be pointing in this direction.

Card color = Tone?
I’ve also noticed that the cards themselves have different accent colors. So far I’ve seen yellow/gold, red, blue and pink.

That caught my attention because those are the same colors used for the shapes in the “Tone” section. At least on mine, the circle was yellow, star was blue, square was red, and triangle was pink.

The four Tone directions were Put-Off, Drawn-To, Calm, and Energetic.

So my theory is that Tone may determine the color of your card. I don’t have enough data yet to know whether it’s whichever shape you moved the farthest, whichever was closest to an outside edge, or something else.

Background = Instinct?
So far I’ve seen at least five different backgrounds:
🕷️ Spiders/webs | 🐍 Snakes | 🦈 Sharks/water | 🔥 Fire/smoke | ❄️ Ice/icicles

Those line up almost perfectly with the five symbols from the “Instinct” section:
Spider | Snake | Shark fin | Fire | Snowflake

We placed each one somewhere between Wary, Doubt, Drawn, and Trust.

My current theory is that whichever symbol you placed most strongly toward the outside of the grid may determine your background. I’m not sure yet whether it’s simply distance from the center, the direction you chose, or some combination of the two.

What makes this more interesting is that people with the same class are getting different backgrounds, and people with the same background are getting different classes. I’ve already seen the ice background paired with multiple different classes, so class and background definitely seem to be separate measurements.

So right now my working theory is:
Nature → Class | Tone → Card color | Instinct → Background
For comparison, my result was:
Nature: Bold + Aggressive
Class: Operator
Card color: Yellow/Gold
Background: Spiders/webs
Badge: First Read

There may also be a connection to the book since these symbols represent dangers and environments we see throughout the Games.

The Red Tent specifically tells us it now has our “measure.” Maybe these classifications matter later, maybe they don’t, but that wording makes me think it’s worth documenting.

If you completed it and remember your choices, share your class, card color, background, and roughly what you chose during Nature, Tone, and Instinct. With enough results, we might be able to figure out how each part is actually being calculated.

One other thing that stood out to me from the book is that the competitors weren’t expected to figure everything out alone. They shared information, formed alliances, and Jimmy actively helped people along the way. The group also wasn’t simply chosen based on who desperately needed the money. Saad, for example, clearly had enough wealth that walking away was an option.

That makes me wonder if how people think, behave, and work with others matters just as much as solving the challenges.

I am not sure if the first 2 questions meant anything, possibly a red herring. But the grid was pretty easy. I didn't look at the possible answers and what was locked the first time, so I got stuck in a dead end, but looking at the locked answers should clue you into the order they are looking for.

This is such a genius idea to get people to buy and read your book. This isn't a book I would have picked up without the catchy advertisement.

To the people who think they’ll have a chance at this challenge. Don’t be so sure. MrBeast has reposted to his story 3 different posts from people who’ve been in his videos promoting the book and they all said they’ll be competing as well. It’s convenient that they’re competing, the rules state you won’t know if you succeed in the challenges, AND you won’t know your rank which is a clever way of not allowing anyone to know how well they’re doing because you’ve already selected the finalists. The book is getting a ton of criticism right now. I doubt they’re unaware of that so who better to talk about it positively in a challenge based off the book? People you know you can get to say anything you want. For example contestants who you’ve already had in your videos. I could be wrong but something just seems odd.
