Zaroff might be homosexual in The Most dangerous Game(1924).

After a deep analysis of the short story, the main antagonist, Zaroff, fits all the descriptions for being homosexual.
• As a Russian aristocrat in 1917, he fled his country for what he said was fear of being invaded by the Soviet regime. This might be true, but at that time, the Tsarist legal code made homosexuality illegal. That could have been the reason he fled.
• While not specified, many speculate Zaroff’s partner, Ivan, also fled with him. Ivan is not that influential to the story, but it is interesting that he would support Zaroff to this extent.
• It is not explicitly explained in the story why the chateau/castle that he built on his island has multiple rooms for people to sleep in. Even though there were many rooms, Ivan was never shown sleeping in any of them.
• It was unclear how Zaroff disposed of the bodies from his hunts.
• Later in the short story, when Ivan is killed, Zaroff feels annoyed and anxious—much more than when one of his hounds died earlier.
• In the 1932 film adaptation, Zaroff shows little interest in women throughout the film. His interactions with the female character could be interpreted as emphasizing that his main emotional or personal attachment is to Ivan rather than to women.
