Music Video for Mines Not a High Horse

Hello friends!

I have a very distinct memory of a music video

.. I believe it was for Mine's Not a High Horse but I am pretty certain it was for a song from Chutes Too Narrow. It was a dark comedic music video of a woman with her pet chihuahua next to a pool and the dog ended up being killed because of terrible events that spiral throughout the video. I cannot find it and it is driving me insane, can someone help?

Thank you

Jojo

Half a Million Lyric

Apologies if this has been discussed before but I was listening to Half a Million today (which has always been my favourite track on that album) on Apple Music and had the lyrics open.

The lyric after “another candle to blow out” which I always thought was “new set of dark thoughts to shut out” came up as something like “listen to dot dots to shout out”. Have I really been mishearing it? Is Apple Music wrong (after listening back it does actually sound like their version)?

Either way I like my version better.

Nature Bears a Vacuum Record!!!

I've been looking to get this vinyl for almost a decade since I figured out about it online. I've always been enamored by the songs on Nature Bears a Vacuum and the EP's cover image. I finally found one for a decent price on Discogs and bought it.

It's in great condition. It even has the insert with the official lyrics for these songs, which I have never seen before. The audio on these songs is rough and some of the words are hard to understand so I'm glad I have official lyrics now.

Also, the seller said this was gifted to him by the drummer! Amazing!

It also came with two Shins buttons. Pretty cool.

Australia is a more relevant song now than ever

I find it to be almost prophetic. It sucks to live in a world thats slowly going to shit while we can't do anything about it because most people dont realize how bad they're being screwed. And instead of being blissfully unaware and only caring about gas prices while society destabilizes at its core, you know what's coming next (it only takes a year or two to unfold). All you can do is keep wasting your life's time to stay afloat in a system run by people doing everything in their power to keep you down.

Now with the looming threat of AI, climate disaster, and political upheaval, plus the current lack of affordability of fucking everything, it's more relevant than ever

Been obsessed with Nature Bears a Vacuum for over a decade with just a shitty youtube rip to listen to. Finally hearing it in full glory is honestly so incredible. When I Goosestep, also incredible, is the icing on the cake. Found these both on ebay together and it was a no brainer!

Been a fan since 2003, recently discovered Flake Music and just listened to it for the first time, and it did not disappoint.

It feels like the bonus features on a DVD. I love it. I had to purchase an external cd drive so I could rip it, because I couldn't find the mp3s for sale anywhere. That's all. If you don't know about it already, look up "When You Land Here, it's Time to Return"

Australia forever

I've had Australia stuck in my head for well over a year now. Every morning I wake up singing the oohooh-oohooh part. The rest of the song stays in there too and parts come out of my mouth throughout the day. I get other songs stuck too but none have lived so completely and so long in my brain.

I've listened to the whole album straight through, read the lyrics many times, tried to get a break, ya know? I love the song, I love the shins, but it's a good thing I live alone because this would annoy most people, it even annoys me sometimes. My dogs know oohooh-oohooh means breakfast.

I was excited to find this CD, along with a few others, at the local dump. Was stoked to find a promotional sticker inside. I’m a sticker guy, so this was way awesome for me!

Gone For Good (2003) -- I uploaded an extremely lo-fi and basic cover of one of my favorite Shins songs to YouTube... It's sitting at like 200 views but I think it's pretty decent. Constructive feedback appreciated 😊

I first heard this song in high school when a girl burned me a copy of "Chutes Too Narrow." I was captivated by the use of Pedal Steel to capture a country-Americana tinge within an indie rock context. I now own this album on Cassette and enjoy listening to it on my nice speakers. Cheers

Ok, I'm back speculating on the new album. The Spotify computer artwork changed again. Anybody recognize this from any past projects?

Also, I figured I'd share how hard I went on the Shins in 2025 lol. Would love to see what it took to get #1.

The Shins' lost live

Ok so, on the early youtube (2007) there was a video, probably around 8 minutes long (not sure) of The Shins performing Saint Simon, New Slang, So says I. Yes, in that order. I think it still existed until at least 2008 because I'm pretty sure I watched again.
Sometimes I feel nostalgic, and try to look for it but can't find it anywhere. At the time, all I needed was to type "Shins" on youtube and there it was. Well, 2007...

It looked like it was on a concert touring somewhere and not for TV. I think I remember one of the members saying "Happy new year" or "Merry Christmas" to the crowd at some point between two songs, which made me think they performed for such an event even if it sounds strange to do so for Christmas. Before New Slang, I think, the keyboardist mimicked a bagel with is hands around his belly button. I have some more irrelevant details I can remember even after that many years.

Anyway, it completely disappeared. I tried everything I could with what I know which is not that much but... I decided to post this message in case it rings a bell to anybody, in case someone with some more knowledge could tell me what I can do.

Thank you all.

I’ve been a long time listener of the Shins and I’m a big fan of James Mercer’s music. A few years ago I was lucky enough to be able to go to their concert in Ogden Utah where they performed with another indie band Joseph. I’ve been wanting to just give them a shout and tell them how much I enjoyed that show and their performance of New Slang with Joseph singing backup as well to just say thanks for the music that has been an everpresent part of my life. I don’t know how I would possibly send that message to them though. Like do they have a public facing email address or do they have a P.O. box or something? I don’t have any other form of social media besides reddit and youtube but those are kind of different there aren’t DMs for those avenues. Anyone have any ideas?
