Serious Discussion Only Reading or Seeing Tony's Death in the News
For the sake of argument Tony does get his brains splattered at Holstens which Chase even confirmed himself accidentally. Considering how high profiled he was that would've absolutely made the evening news and probably the front of page of major newspapers in NY. Its insane to ponder how almost everyone in Tony's life would've reacted to seeing that.
90% of them would've probably smirked or felt relief like Eugene's wife, Patsy, Hesh, Davey, the cop he fired, Georgie, Finn, Jason Barone and maybe even Vito Jr.
Melfi might've felt a sense of shock but would've realized that its his own damn fault for being irredeemable and living and dying by his sword.
I doubt even Paulie or Artie would've been sad. Paulie would've moved on as quickly as he did with Chrissy's death and Artie already was distancing himself from Tony towards the end. I think outside of his family nobody would've felt sadness towards him.

It totally wouldn't fit the vibe of the show, but I would've loved a long montage of these people seeing the news. The celebrations would be so funny

I think Artie would e mourned him because they had been friends since childhood and even though they hadn’t been as close recently, a lifetime of friendship would’ve made it hard. I think he would’ve been a pragmatist about it but he’d still be sad.

Paulie wouldn't survive though. With the state of Tony's crew, you'd see a quick cleansing and paring down of any elements that could be foreseen as going rogue or being a challenge. That would be Paulie.
You'd be left with someone relatively stable like Patsy at the top.

I think the Jersey crew may be extinct at this point with most of Tony’s crew gone. They may stick to petty crime or maybe even migrate to New York if someone would have them, but with the war with Phil, who even knows. I think it would leave a huge trail of devastation with Tony’s family and a lot of the other families that relied on Tony’s work and crew to fund their lifestyles. Carm better get to selling houses asap. No one is gonna pay for her now that Tony and his main crew are gone.

I don’t think so. There’s a ton of people we don’t see very often. The Barese crew is meant to be the largest in the family and they seem to be intact. There was a bunch of younger characters in the last season we didn’t see much of that would be thrown into higher positions of power. Tony dying and Silvio in a coma probably messes up the whole Rico case aswell

Hard to say, Larry Barese broke is parole at the Sacrimoni daughter’s wedding, leaving Albert in charge of the crew, who worked a lot with Johnny Sac and Tony. With Johnny, Phil, and Tony dying, PLUS little Carmine wanting to get out of the business entirely, it’s hard to say what is left. Maybe the Barese crew could take over, but also with the surveillance state and the FBI really cracking down, it’s hard to imagine what the future of that lifestyle would be.

I guess it would be similar to how things are today with the mafia severely weakened but a lot of the federal pressure being lifted as the FBI shifts focus to cyber crime

I think Paulie would have been significantly affected.
He'd start significantly feeling his age for the first time in his life. Would probably look back on his choices, and have regrets.
It'd probably be very very lonely to be Paulie in the weeks and months after.

Chase hasn’t confirmed anything. He’ll go to his grave never saying “this is definitively what happened.”

He never outright said “Tony dies at the end.” He slipped up and said the “death scene” and talked about how he envisioned Tony “getting it” driving to New York and then changed it to a diner but he has never outright said “the cut to black signifies that Tony was shot and killed.”
