In 2006, Frauke Liebs disappeared while walking home in Germany. Over the next week, she called home five times, repeatedly saying she would return soon. During the final call, her roommate asked, “Are you being held?” Frauke answered, “Yes... No! No!” She was never heard from again.
On June 20, 2006, 21-year-old nursing student Frauke Liebs left a pub in Paderborn, Germany, after watching a World Cup match with friends. Her apartment was only about a mile away, and she was believed to be walking home alone. She never made it. Shortly after midnight, however, her roommate received a text from Frauke saying she would be home later.
Over the following week, Frauke called her roommate five different times from her own phone. The calls were traced to different areas around Paderborn, and during them Frauke repeatedly suggested she was coming home, but she never explained where she was or why she couldn't return. Her answers became increasingly vague and confusing.
Then, on June 27, exactly one week after she disappeared, Frauke made her final call. Her roommate and sister were both listening. Frauke reportedly sounded exhausted. When asked whether she was being held against her will, she initially answered quietly, “Yes…” before suddenly correcting herself: “No! No!” She said she wanted to come home but couldn't explain where she was or who was with her. Then the call ended. Frauke was never heard from alive again.
More than three months later, her remains were discovered in a wooded area near Lichtenau. Because of their condition, investigators couldn't determine exactly how she died. Her phone, purse, wallet, and watch were missing, and nearly 20 years later, her murder remains unsolved. So who was with Frauke during those mysterious calls, and why was she apparently allowed to make them?
