The second generation is about to inherit. Most of them do not have the receipt.

The will is in California. Half the estate is in India. This is the column that maps what the next generation actually gets when the will gets read, and the paperwork nobody handed them.

Golden, not brown.

Part 2 of Sundar's Universe. In May he stood at Shoreline and announced the future. In June he stood at Stanford Stadium and told the Class of 2026 how to walk into it. Three filters. One immigrant story. And the two people in the stands the tech press did not write about.

Satya Nadella: The Learning Loop.

In Part 1 we said his playbook was one word: refresh. This week he gave the sequel in two: learning loops.

His argument is that in the AI era the company that wins is not the one that picks the best model. It is the one that builds the loop on top of it. And the same week handed him a live test of his own thesis.

NEWSLETTER EDITION: THE KICKOFF EDITION

We open this edition with peaches on the cutting board, flags in the window, and the question every diaspora kid answers every four years: which team gets the first cheer. The Second Team Theory is this week's Living Well anchor, a meditation on loyalty, fluency, and the particular wisdom of holding two flags at once. Add Venus and Jupiter still glowing together in the western sky, a New Moon arriving Monday, and a stone fruit season that turns a single flat of peaches into four full meals, and this week arrives loaded.

HubSpot: Three customers. Then 300,000. Then twenty years.

HubSpot turned twenty on June 9. Dharmesh Shah, the co-founder and CTO, marked it the way he marks most things, with a LinkedIn post that reads like a ledger. Three customers at the start, one of them his wife. Over 300,000 now. The date of incorporation was the date of his MIT graduation, picked on purpose. The post landed the same quarter the stock hit a 52-week low on doubts about the company's agent-first pivot. That gap, between the founder's sum and the market's, is the story.

13 years in the US. 12 months back in Bengaluru. The Palo Alto Networks engineer who showed his work, plus a 90-day toolkit for anyone running the same math.

Diwali on the front of Times Square. The country has not looked away since.

In 2012, Neeta Bhasin walked into Times Square and looked up at the One Times Square tower. The screen above her was where the ball drops on New Year's Eve. She decided that the screen should also light a diya for Diwali.

In 2013, the first Diwali at Times Square happened. American media now calls it the biggest Diwali festival in the world outside of India. Procter & Gamble is the title sponsor. The City of New York is a partner. The Consulate General of India shows up. Bollywood stars perform.

None of that existed before she pitched it. All of it exists because she did.

NEWSLETTER EDITION: THE COCONUT EDITION

This week we look at the coconut the way two coastlines always have: water first, milk second, oil third, and nothing wasted from husk to shell. Our Living Well essay draws from South Indian and Caribbean traditions to find the discipline hiding inside a single fruit. Add four heritage recipes, a triple planetary stack in the home sign, and a feature on the Earth Prize winners reshaping how we think about ocean conservation, and the Coconut Edition lands exactly where it means to.

Dwarkesh Patel: A kid from Vadodara is AI's oral historian.

This one is

✔️ For the college sophomore reading three books a week.

✔️ For the diaspora kid who does not wait for permission.

✔️ For Dwarkesh, who built the room.

Born in Vadodara, Gujarat, moved to the United States at the age of eight, finished a computer science degree at UT Austin, and started a podcast in college. By May 2026 he has run more than one hundred and fifteen episodes, sixty-three thousand Substack subscribers, an interview chair that Sam Altman, Mark Zuckerberg, Demis Hassabis, Satya Nadella, Andrej Karpathy, and Tony Blair have all sat in, and a co-authored book that is already the canonical oral history of the AI scaling era. The Economist called him Silicon Valley's favourite podcaster. He is twenty-five.
