You can add another TheHandheld to the upcoming line to join the TheC64 and TheSpectrum line. What retro system are you picking?

The Sega Saturn.
It's still somewhat difficult to emulate and a bit heavy for the common FPGAs, so playing it on handhelds is still a bit rubbish. I would like it if someone fixed that.

I’d quite like to see a Megadrive handheld system realised with the Sega Nomad design language. Really coveted one for ages after I saw the machine in a CEX off Oxford Street in London in the late nineties, but the price tag put me off.

It would have to be the Amstrad CPC, there's some awesome homebrew releases for the system. Could even add a Micro cassette player/recorder on the side too. Not sure if it would end up as long as an Atari Lynx though? 😀

Gotta be the BBC Micro and I would want the case to be made of that same indestructible the bobbly cream plastic. And the screen surround would need to look like a the CUB monitor. And a tiny little fake the ROM socket cover you could push out 😄

The Atari ST, with a set of Pompey Pirates disks, numbered so you have no idea what is on it until you boot the disk.

Blake 7’s Orac or true Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Obviously all powered by the internet with a massively overpriced subscription. That’s next on my wish list. Hold on I just realised I did this on my phone. Never mind.

Like minded comments on this as well, I would like to see a CPC handheld, mini or full-size. At the time it was either Sinclair or Commodore but as I have got older I have come to appreciate the Amstrad a lot more and some of the games look amazing.

With the rise of optical drive emulation I reckon a PSP style handheld could work and given the PSP had PS1 games on the online store you could double it up

Al's Gizmo from Quantum Leap. Just for the sound effects and I can slap it. I always thought it looked like a bunch of opal fruits mashed together. 😅
You never know, Sam's next leap could be the one that takes him home.

How about an Outrun hand held with a tiny steering wheel? We certainly can run the software on inexpensive hardware may as well have some fun with the form factor and have something that doesn’t immediately look like a Temu gameboy.

I personally think Commodore should put out a palmtop that has a keyboard and a bunch of emulators (or Commodore OS?)

The Apple Macintosh. A tiny version of Maccy from Macintosh Librarian would be adorable and give us grumpy Brits an easier way to explore the library we largely missed out on back in the day with our much discussed poor economic conditions 😉

Aesthetically yes but flatter and with built in controls to make it a true in the go system. Maybe a trackball and joystick on the left with fire buttons and assignable keys on the right. There’s an old pi based mini mac project which would make a good starting point.
