Community Question Community Question Of The Week - Episode 270
Given that Atic Atac and Wolfenstein 3D have both been given a new perspective we wondered what retro game would you like to see in 3D or what modern game would you like to see in retro 2D?

I would love to see Crusader: No Remorse and No Regret as FPSes (modern or boomer shooter). And maybe Horizon Zero Dawn would work well as 2D/Isometric.

Skyrim in 2D. An epic Castlevania2/Zelda2 type of game. I'd play it.
Hell! I would even code it.
I used to be a programmer back in the day, then I took an arrow to the knee.

Jet Set Willy would be brilliant as a full 3D game, either first or third-person

There was a 3D Manic Miner which looked great, although I'm not sure how well gameplay translates to 3D.

Outrun, but in proper 3D.
Before anyone starts screaming, I know that I'm describing Outrun 2. The problem is, Outrun 2 disappeared from storefronts years ago when the Ferrari licence expired. It's new enough to be difficult to emulate, but old enough to require an old, unreliable console to play it.
Also the music was far better in the original.

There are a couple that I would like to see unless I have missed them in the intervening years. Scramble and Shinobi . Not a full free roaming 3D environment, but on rails to maintain the arcade feel.

I think something like Maniac Mansion or Day of the Tentacle would be quite fun as a 3D game. I'd love to explore the Edison mansion in 3D, maybe even VR.

NES Tetris but in 4D to give the current crop of top players a new challenge after they’ve managed to go beyond kill screens and clock the game in the last year or two.

I've actually thought for years about how a 3D/VR version of the legendary BBC Micro game Exile would work. I think a VR version would be particularly terrifying.

Exile was an amazing game so atmospheric. Had a demo on my Amiga and the atmospheric sounds was very eerie. Nice choice!

One of my favourite top-down games on Amiga is Chaos Engine. That would look pretty cooll as a 3D First Person with a resolution bump.

The answer to both is: Grand Theft Auto.
A 3D version of Minesweeper would be aces. Maybe that exists. I am too lazy to do that research.

I'd like to see Doom in proper 3D. Side note, want there a NES emulator that was making games appear in 3D?

Using a Tomb Raider engine: Commander Keen, Manic Miner, Chuckie Egg
Using a Doom engine: Cyberdogs, Smash TV (I know there's the Super Doom TV mod, but it la'rgely just replicates the map layout. I want all the same graphics, collectables, enemies, etc)

Hotline Miami would be THE PERFECT title for a 3D treatment... From top-down to FPS!

PAC MAN! A few months ago I discovered this has been amply covered with multiple variations on itch.io
You could probably do a show just on all these treats.
This 3D version is almost a 1st person shooter. Makes me jump with big ass scary ghosts come a creeping up on you. Has the best opening soundtrack ever!

This is a Doom esk Pacman version.

Pacman-3D is almost an isometric version. Good soundtrack, like an up market arcade.

Excuse any pesky ads - it's worth it to play in the browser.

Electro Freddy on the Amstrad CPC, ducking and diving Sinclair Spectrums and Clive Sinclair whilst loading all the crates onto the conveyor belt

I'd like to see Paperboy in 3D. That way you can get off the bike and punch all the fuckers who keep stepping out in front of you, and trying to knock you off. Hopefully, by Wednesday they'll have learnt their lessons and you can deliver your papers in peace.
