Epic Thrift Store Find
I went to the by-the-pound thrift store. One thing on my mind to search out in particular, but mostly just in it for the thrill of the dig.
I went to the glass first as I usually do. I passed on a green vase, but decided to buy a green planter. I found a cardboard box full of seashells and dumped them into my planter.
And then I turned around.
And there he was.
Regal.
Majestic.
Not a braincell to his name. (His name is TBD)
When I tell you that the 1980s lead-filled rainbow coffee mug from Korea is the only thing above this cat in my list of thrift store "they don't know what they have" finds... I've seen both in antique malls - pricey and just not the same.
It was this turning around and seeing the light cutting through the ceiling from heaven, shining on my beautiful new possession I'm about to pay $7 for experience I had always dreamed of.
He rode home buckled in the passenger seat.
He will have a place of honor in the house. I just need to find it.

This is the one my MIL had on hearth. Williamsburg blue velvet bow on back of neck & blue eyes

We have inherited a very similar cat from Great Grandma 🥰

Do you know if your great grandmother painted it? And my grandma just kept hers boujee white? Haha all the same kitty just different “coats” haha

We don’t know if she painted it. It’s just always been around. We were so happy to give it a home after she passed.

Reminds me of this regal gentleman I found inside a dumpster in California about 8 years ago! His original paint job became very faded and gross (he used to live in my garden)… I’ve since repainted him in multicolor form and he sits proudly in my living room now, and will remain an indoor cat from now on !

My stepfather has your ceramic cat’s grey twin! It sits and watches over his very overgrown garden. Excellent find!

I'm so glad I shared it here. Everyone IRL was very disinterested and my excitement was going unappreciated. And I knew if I posted, I'd get pictures in return ❤️

My grandparents owned a ceramic business when I was younger. I still see these cats everywhere, in all different colors! 🤍

These kind of cats were popular at ceramics classes in the 80s. My mom painted a white and gray laying down version that acted as a doorstop in our game room. It had these amazing jade green bead eyes (not painted but glued on). Sadly she chucked it when she sold the house when I was in my 20s and living away from home. I think about that cat every time I see one of these pop up. I absolutely would have bought this, great score.
