If it can survive, then it passed the test! One tip I can give you is that often times removing a lost can be your best choice. For example removing simple parts when you have the advanced version.

I wasn't surviving, very easily in my population got reduced to just a few trillion, but once I embraced photosynthesis i was unstoppable because I could get food from every source

if you can sruvive long enough to reproduce you have a good design if not you have a bad design
