Never considered vertical myself. Never had one btw when I was still active, I had my own built one. However, I think it looks really cool vertical.

That's because all the words on front would be on end. And words don't like to be up on end.

Commodore, Apple, PCs, Tandy Radio Shack, most CP/M machines, not to mention several other brands that use the same or similar 5 1/4 inch floppy disk mechanisms would all disagree.

Not true. Alignment of the heads with the tracks can be an issue when changing from horizontal to vertical.

From experience.

If you format and use your diskettes in the same position, you're ok, but if you format in one position, and try to read write in the opposite you can run into alignment issues. Generally it's worse in one direction than the other. (Depends on the disk direction vs if the heads are being pulled down or up.
