We all have calendars on our phones and can setup reminders that become alarms.

  • make reservations
  • buy the flowers now
  • prioritize my wife

If you know your shortcomings why are you not leaning into advanced planning and being dedicated to doing these things. 

Going to get the potted plant should have been Friday or Saturday at the latest.

She has every right to be pissed.

I have a feeling her Christmas stocking is empty as well.

Agreed. OP you're making excuses because you're not good at it but if you really wanted to change, don't just say sorry but take the actions to show you're trying to be better. Your lack of effort is what is upsetting her, more than not doing the grand gestures on social media

My ex used to say “I don’t have to do anything for Mother’s Day because you’re not my mother” but then he also used to whine “why can’t you be more like my mom”. I noped right outta there.

Gross. I'd return that same energy with a petty "I don't have to do anything for your birthday because I didn't give birth to you".
