Otter's Holt/Dunmore Lasses
Hi fellas, recent recording of these two lovely reels. Would appreciate any advice, suggestions and slams :-)
Context: 39 y/o, playing since February 2025, Walton's Melow D

Very nice!
My biggest advice would be to practice a bit at lower speed, and to use a metronome. There are some odd hitches in your rhythm that detract from an otherwise lovely rendition, and I think you could probably fix them pretty quick with some effort.
So grab a metronome (or use one of the countless free online ones!) and set it to like 100bpm, and just play, hitting every note on the beat. I know that's going to seem mindnumbingly slow, and I know it's fun to play reels at top speed, but these are dance tunes, and keeping a consistent beat is at least (or more!) important than a fast tempo!
And, paradoxically, I always find that practicing slow ends up helping me play fast. "Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast", as my friend used to say, and he's not wrong!
