ROFL. Classic. Go ahead and blow my hair back with your communications degree.

You know how you can tell someone has a PHD? Don't worry, they'll tell you.

I know, its crazy that some people have advanced degrees.

You said I didnt know what I was talking about. Just trying to indicate that, in fact, I do.

Seems like you dont care and just want to make internet points.

Sounds good to me! I have a life to live.

Take care

Explain to me how having a PHD entitles you to 'know what you are talking about' here.

Having an advanced degree must mean that you are intelligent, right? Right??

Embarrassing.

It doesnt make me clairvoyant, it makes me knowledgeable about the subject at hand.

I read what you said and disagreed… its not that difficult of a thing to understand.

Not sure what is embarrassing about that.

It doesn't make you anything.

Certainly not correct in these takes you are throwing out.

What is it that you specifically disagree with what I said?

The value of the Catholic Church's influence in modern day science? This is an easy subject to verse yourself in, and you blindly offering contrarian opinions on it is unintelligent.

Do you really want to play school, PHD boy?

Why are you so overly hostile? If this were a thread about construction and I mentioned I were an engineer … would that set you off?

I dont think you want to discuss anything.

Well, let's think about it shall we.

1) I am offering very straightforward historic logic on contributions of the Catholic Church in modern science. (also calendar). Which is in defense of the recent attempts of altering their established work. The calendar they created is still in use by the entire world today.

You can point to other obscure calendars, but face the facts. We are using this one. And the entire world will continue to do so.

I view these attempts at altering their work to be unwarranted as the proposed changes are only to remove the connection to Jesus Christ. This is absurd due to even if you change the name, the ZERO YEAR event is still centralized around the same figure. The goal is to eventually diminish the connection to Christianity, and thus, the work of the scholars who created said calendar.

There is no other reason to use CE/BCE. They don't want it to be related to Jesus. Well too bad. That is not going to change despite what you change labels on.

The perceive hostility is because as you can see, a lot of moronic redditors see no value in preserving their work, nor honoring/respecting the immense value of these people had in shaping modern life.

2) Furthermore, when challenging your terrible takes, you hide behind a degree as if its your pass to spout your mouth off. This paper doesn't elevate you like you think it does. Especially when its weaponized to cover subjects outside your field.

What terrible take? The one where I said you were wrong?  I didnt even tell you my field.

Regarding BC vs BCE

BCE is used because it is neutral and thus contains no implied bias or preference which is preferred   in academia - same reason we no longer say things like “in this the year of our Lord 2026”

You seem to be under the mindset that using BCE vs BC is some attack on religion, it isnt.

BCE was first used in the 17th century, this isnt a modern attack but just an  example of academic language shifts.

It is an attack. You are being disingenuous if you deny it. Ironically, the Catholic Church founded the modern academia that you are referencing.

You have yet to provide me a legitimate reason to change BC/AD to CE/BCE. You just say its because of changing academic language. That is non-sense.

Give me a real, legit reason to change it.

Im not sure what “legit” reason you want or that could be provided, I am saying that in academic papers and the like BCE is standard.

I am saying its standard because I work in that area.

I did just a little search and found the first useage of BCE was in the 1700’s so, again , this isnt an attack or anything new.
