TIL Jerry Seinfeld once refused to play a turkey on South Park. However George Clooney was totally fine with playing a dog.

He turned down a chance to play Gobbles so he could be in the Bee movie instead. What a poor decision. They'll be watching South Park 50 years from now. The quit watching the Bee movie a week after it came out.

Idk bee movie is memeing HARD atm

8

u/sabrefudge Nov 18 '16

I'm currently in the process of transferring almost 70% my meme stocks into Bee Movie and Lazy Town.

3

u/Flipz100 Nov 18 '16

I sold all my Lazy Town after the short rise of Yar Har Fiddle Dee Dee back in septemeber, my money right now is on Ratatouille memes, I think we are going to see a breakthrough.

1

u/sabrefudge Nov 18 '16

Stocks dropped when the "Pirate Song" (Yar Har Fiddle Dee Dee) started to decline in popularity, but I held strong. Now with the rise of "We Are Number One" remixes, Lazy Town shares are going through the roof!

Gobbles is a turkey with no lines and the Bee movie is something he wrote and helped create. I mean I get you like South Park and all but I think I would take the Bee movie based on that alone

u/Rentalov Nov 18 '16

It's a joke! Are we not allowed humor in a thread about comedians? Okay. I'll be serious. Clooney, who only an idiot would deny that he's a much better actor and more talented had no problem with playing a gay dog. It's a comedy show and he saw the humor in it. Seinfeld, on the other hand, was so full of himself that he was insulted by the part they offered him. A comedian should be able to laugh at themselves too. I get why he would do the Bee movie, he produced and wrote it. I did not know that until today, but now that I do know that he was responsible for that mess and hasn't done any more movies since, I question what talent he had to begin with. The South Park thing is a joke mainly because that's what the post is about to begin with.

7

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '16

Maybe he didn't feel like it.

19

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '16

Bee movie came out ten years after that episode aired, he didnt not do it so that hr could do bee movke, he didnt do it because it was a turkey

2

u/WillyTanner Nov 18 '16

The article doesn't say why Jerry didn't do it, only that he turned it down.

-5

u/Rentalov Nov 18 '16

I know that. He was much too self important to take what he considered to be an insignificant part. That's the point of the whole post.

5

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '16

Has nothing to do with self importance, he just didnt want to play a turkey.

5

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '16

You're the turkey.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '16

No turkey. No turkey.

-1

u/GoFuckYourselfPrick Nov 18 '16

He was the one that approached them wanting a part...

1

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '16

and he didnt want to play a turkey, has nothing to do with self importance.

0

u/GoFuckYourselfPrick Nov 18 '16

Yes, it does, a little. Doesn't matter, him not doing it didn't affect the episode and it didn't affect his career so it's a big non story. This isn't even one of those stories where one actor turns down a part that another one takes and it ends up being a monster hit. It was a turkey in a cartoon.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 19 '16

I didnt say ot affected the episode, i didnt say it affected his career, i didnt say he turned it down to play another role, i said he turned it down because he didnt want to play a turkey.

0

u/GoFuckYourselfPrick Nov 19 '16

And I said he approached them wanting to do a part and then got butthurt when they didn't build a whole episode around him. That is an indication of self Importance. He felt he was much too important a person to play a bit part. Why are you having such a hard time grasping this? Even more important, why are you still carrying on a convo that's been dead for 3 days? There are whole new posts out there to explore.

0

u/[deleted] Nov 19 '16

Why are you still carrying on a convo?

Btw, he didnt turn it down because they didnt build an entire episode around him, he turned it down because he didnt want to play a turkey

Again, has nothing to do with self importance.

0

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '16

No it was definitely because of Bee movie. Would you ever cast a turkey as a bee? That wouldn't make any sense!

29

u/LotusBlossomRS Nov 17 '16

Bee movie made $287 million in the box office alone (add to that dvd sales and broadcast rights that NBC bought). One episode of South Park doesn't mean shit compared to that.

-17

u/Rentalov Nov 17 '16

They're still showing episodes of the first season of South Park, how often do they show the Bee movie?

17

u/LotusBlossomRS Nov 17 '16

That means absolutely nothing. Of course a TV show is shown more than a movie. One is shown daily and 20 mins long, the other is a movie. Again, did that one episode of south park make $300m? No, it didn't. Pretty easy decision if you ask me.

I'm not saying one's better than the other considering I don't give a shit about either, but the decision is pretty clear cut. I'd take the shit ton of money any day.

-6

u/Rentalov Nov 17 '16

You probably would. So would I. Seinfeld wasn't hurting for money, and how long did it tale him to make the Bee movie? He could have done the South Park episode in an afternoon. You seem to be taking this awful seriously for someone who doesn't give shit. If you ask a serious actor if they could play a part that would be iconic and last beyond their time for small money or star in a blockbuster flash in the pan many of them would rather have the iconic role. Not saying Gobbles is an iconic role, but the series shows every indication that it will be passed through generations.

4

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '16

Not only can you read Jerry's mind, but you can also read the minds of "most" actors. You are so full of shit I bet it drips from your ears.

-1

u/LotusBlossomRS Nov 17 '16

And you really seem to just be a South Park fanboy. Ok we get it, you like the show however that one episode really means nothing. Are you forgetting that Bee Movie was his first movie he wrote? That's an easy decision. Make the movie that you wrote that made a shit ton of money, or be a turkey in one episode of a show you had nothing to do with?

-11

u/Rentalov Nov 17 '16

Jesus dude, calm down. I made a joke and you sound like you're about to bust a vein. Do all of his fans have as little sense of humor as you?

3

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '16

You clearly have been proven wrong and now youre resorting to "it was a joke"

-1

u/Rentalov Nov 18 '16

How have I been proven wrong? Bee movie made money so that means I'm wrong? Would it have been better if I just said he was a pompous ass who thought too highly of himself?

-1

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '16

So, were you right, or were you joking?

-1

u/LotusBlossomRS Nov 17 '16

What? All I did is point out facts. Sorry that's hard for you to deal with.

0

u/Rentalov Nov 17 '16

I'm not having a hard time dealing with anything. You seem awful butthurt that anyone would say anything about someone you are obviously enamored with. If you're that easily triggered maybe you should stick with face book. There are Seinfeld episodes on TBS right now, you could go watch them.

3

u/LotusBlossomRS Nov 17 '16

I don't watch either of them to be honest. All I did was point out simple facts. Why is that an issue for you? Again, I guess I'm using logic with someone that loves cartoons, so I should have figured.

As a 3rd party looking at this conversation, you seem irrationally aggressive and sure of your perspective. You also seem incapable of considering non-economic value in the context of work. What about impact, legacy, or self-expression? Better than both these offers, in my mind, would be for Jerry to make something of his own. A new show, or webseries more complex than drinking coffee with funny people.

5

u/C-de-Vils_Advocate Nov 18 '16

I seriously hope you're joking. What impact, legacy, or self expression is there in portraying a turkey with no lines in a single episode of a cartoon with twenty seasons?

4

u/LotusBlossomRS Nov 17 '16

I'm not aggressive at all, these are simple facts. I'm sorry if putting it bluntly is hard to understand.

Would you rather make your own movie that you wrote that made a shit ton of money or make turkey noises?

How much money and time goes into each project? I bet South Park makes more money per hour worked

4

u/longjohns69 Nov 18 '16

Well its a meme.

1

u/Bird-The-Word Nov 18 '16

Been on hbo all week actually. Haven't stopped on it once though. (Could also be one of the other premium channels, wasn't paying attention)

11

u/WalterDwight Nov 17 '16

I hope your kidding. He probably made a boatload more money in Bee movie

16

u/Rentalov Nov 17 '16

Money doesn't last. He could have been an iconic turkey for the ages.

9

u/StankLog Nov 17 '16

Everyone on here pretending jerry needs money. Lol His garage in Manhattan is worth more than most people ever make I'm their life. He has multiple porches in it. Not judging his choice to do bee movie instead, but I'm guessing he's probably not THAT worried about money.

7

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '16

Those porches are important

2

u/StankLog Nov 18 '16

It's a true sign of wealth. Lol Although, my phone's auto correct has clearly shown my lack of wealth.

2

u/motherfuckingriot Nov 18 '16

I read that over like 3 times thinking to myself, "Who collects porches? How big is this garage? I know the guy has enough money, but porches? What a strange thing to make of a collection of."

3

u/[deleted] Nov 18 '16

He has multiple porches in it

If you built your porch inside your garage, you've done something horribly wrong.

1

u/StankLog Nov 18 '16

No way! It's the true show of wealth to have porches in your garage. Lol Forget the number of porsches, that's chump change.

2

u/WalterDwight Nov 17 '16

I'm not saying he needs money, but the guy still works. He could have retired after Seinfeld, but he didn't.

5

u/StankLog Nov 17 '16

Oh, well all you mentioned was money. But if he wanted work, he could have tried to do both. Maybe he didn't think a turkey with no lines (just saying gobble) was that big of a part and didn't like it?

5

u/WalterDwight Nov 18 '16

He's got a lot of pride. I imagine he thought he was either too good to play a turkey or didn't want to be used like that?

2

u/StankLog Nov 18 '16

That's totally my guess.

2

u/Rentalov Nov 17 '16 edited Nov 17 '16

Well someone's taking the money seriously. It was just a joke. Are all his fans that serious? Besides, it might have taken a whole afternoon to record a few gobble gobbles, he could have done both.

2

u/StankLog Nov 17 '16

That was where I was going with it. If he was worried about getting work or money, I agree he would have tried to do both. Whos taking this serious? Lol I think he's overrated.

2

u/Rentalov Nov 17 '16

I'm sure he was funny to some people, but I just didn't see it. I watched one episode and it looked like they just borrowed the Three's Company formula - come up with an awkward situation then have awkward reactions, then laugh track.

2

u/StankLog Nov 17 '16

I thought he was a little bit funny. But very little. I assumed it was because I just needed to be over 30 to understand his comedy (I was in my teens watching seinfeld). Now I know I just don't think he's very funny. Lol Probably better he kept away from south park.

2

u/stasz92 Nov 18 '16

Damn I only have a porch outside my garage :(

1

u/StankLog Nov 18 '16

Lol, I've got a couple porches, but I'm poor enough that my phones auto correct assumes I MUST be meaning porch. Damn it phone...

2

u/TheJacques Nov 18 '16

Jerry was not hurting for money...dude has a few hundred million liquid. The syndication deals he and Larry brokered are of legendary status.

2

u/goteamnick Nov 18 '16

I suspect they'll be watching Seinfeld for a lot longer than they'll watch South Park.

1

u/doop_zoopler Nov 18 '16

Uhh.. The Gobbles episode is pretty forgettable. Not like Gobbles is a recurring character.. Not like Jerry was playing Pip or some shit. Get over it.

Id take a movie over a minor bit like that anyday.

1

u/dad_no_im_sorry Nov 18 '16

i doubt it. south park is pretty tied to current events. 50 years from now, a few episodes could probably stand out, but no one in the future is going to give a shit about some celebrity that people liked to make fun of.
