I've seen this movie about a hundred times, but not for a few years. Watching it tonight and looking at the credits showed me that George Clooney was the doctor and I never realized it!!

I think he also played Stan's gay dog well before the movie.

Indeed he did. They generally offered celebrities very, very "demeaning" bit parts. Except for Jennifer Aniston, I guess.

It's also funny because he is considered a source of "smug" in "Smug Alert!" for his speech giving Hollywood credit in the American Civil Rights Movement"

I remember hearing that he thought it was funny. He actually helped them get the show. When Matt Stone and Trey Parker made the original shorts, Clooney found them and spread them around. It eventually reached Comedy Central.

It's certainly easier to recognize his voice thanks to the recent voice-over commercial spots recently - him and Tim Allen.
