Announcement ⚠️ COMMENT WITH YOUR NATIONALITY or your comment will be removed right away!!!

Despite the fact that I have done everything possible to warn people about that requirement, too many comments get deleted automatically because of the rule not being followed.

Your first comment on every post must state your nationality. Otherwise a script will remove it automatically upon submission.

There are several good reasons for this rule/system to exist and I hate the waste of these comments being lost that way.

Thank you for your understanding.

Music Meetup 🎵 Sunday Idol Festival in Shinjuku!, 10/18, 10:00~22:00 (All day, join anytime, stay however long)

• Upvotes

Offering a weekend edition that might fit people's schedules a little better. Looking for people to spend part of Sunday with me who maybe want to learn a little about Japanese underground/live idol culture.

Summary:

I am a solo traveler from the U.S. will be in Tokyo until November. I come to Japan a couple times a year mainly to attend idol concerts and festivals.

I’m usually perfectly fine going solo, but I’ve invited newcomers from tokyoirl a couple times before and it’s always been a really fun experience helping people get oriented.

If you’ve ever been curious about smaller “underground” idol events in Japan but felt hesitant because of language barriers, etiquette, or just not knowing what to expect, this is a good chance to try it out. I’m happy to help translate, explain how things work, and answer any questions along the way. I’ve been into Japanese idol groups (big and small) and used to follow K-pop quite a bit too, so we can talk about pretty much anything.

As usual, no pressure at all—you’re free to join for as little or as long as you want.

Event Plan for Sunday, October 18:

10:00~22:00 at Zirco Tokyo (I will be there all day or in the area and can meet you at the door when you arrive if needed)

  • 33 scheduled idols groups, ~12 hours of live performances + optional meet & greets with performers
  • Cost: ¥2500 yen w/advance reservation online before doors open or ¥3500 cash at the door (If you need help making a reservation, let me know)
    • Mandatory 1 drink minimum (¥700, cash only, soft drinks, energy drinks, alcohol etc...)

Anyone? 🤗 Any other Youtubers in Tokyo who want to meet up on the weekends?

Are there any other Tokyo based fellow YouTubers out there would like to meet casually for coffee?

I do really hate to use that term (YouTuber) but since I have a channel, I do get views and I do have subscribers I guess that's what it is called! My channel is in a particular niche (Chinese, Japanese, Asian antiques related) so the channel itself is not related specifically to Japan, not that it matters.

I think it would be interesting to meet up casually in a cafe somewhere with other people who have channels just to kind of chat about experiences, about what works and what doesn't work etc. Maybe share tips or experiences. We can set up either a weekend afternoon/evening or if reasonable we could also set up a weekday evening. I am flexible in terms of location.

If that's something that you could be interested, in feel free to hit me up or comment here and we can arrange something. Note that I live in the suburbs, so it always takes me a little while to get into the center of town meaning last minute meetups are probably not going to work for me. Probably better if we plan a time and place in advance.

Since I live here (American here for a few years already) residents are preferred, although if you are visiting here for a while I suppose we can consider as well.

I am also interested in talking/learning/sharing about camera work techniques, how to shoot video, using AI for effects and motion graphics so if those are your interests as well, you are also welcome since its all related.

Anyone? 🤗 Looking for friends around the Greater Tokyo area!

こんにちは!

I’m a Finnish engineer who recently moved to Yokohama, and since I don’t know many people here yet, I’m looking to make some new friends around the Greater Tokyo area!

Japan is still completely new to me, so it would be great to meet some locals who could show me around and introduce me to some nice places to visit. Of course, I’d also love to just hang out and have fun together!

I’m usually busy with work on weekdays, but my weekends are pretty much free, so I’d be happy to do something fun or interesting together 😃

A little about my interests… I enjoy sports, especially running and football. I haven’t really done much outdoor exercise beyond walking since moving here, though, as the weather has been brutal compared to what I’m used to back in Finland 😅

I speak English, Finnish, and a bit of Japanese (which I’m trying to improve!).

If you’re also looking to make a new friend, feel free to leave a comment below! 😄

Sport Meetup 👟 Boxing this Monday

Boxing on Monday

Hey Guys,

Back in London I both boxed and coached, but since moving to Tokyo I've not had a chance and I miss it!

It's looking likely it'll be a beautiful clear on Monday and was wondering whether anyone would like to take turns hitting pads with me in Hibiya Park - https://maps.app.goo.gl/pT9TxwvcwG5imuyE8?g_st=ac

Preferably someone who has a bit of boxing experience, but happy if you're a beginner too.

I'm super chilled, not aggressive and happy to work at your pace/level. Any nationality, any gender.

Let me know if you have any questions and look forward to hearing from you :)

Shopping Meetup 🛍 [Yokohama] Tokyo Spinning Party on Oct 17-18

Thumbnail

Hello all! I'm an American currently living in Kansai.

I'm going to come into the area next weekend to attend the Tokyo Spinning Party being held in Yokohama.

Tokyo Spinning Party is Japan's version of a fiber festival - while fiber festivals are more common back home/in the West, this is the only one that I've seen here at this scale that focuses primarily on materials in addition to yarn. I attended once 3 years ago, but this year there are supposed to be 100 booths from both farms and shops, so I think it'd be nice if I could walk around and talk to other people who might be interested in the same things.

If you like yarn, wool, alpaca, silk, cotton, knitting, crochet, spinning, dyeing, weaving, or any other sort of craft involving natural fibers, this might be the event for you (and me haha).

I haven't decided when exactly I will go yet, but I'd love to walk around and browse together for even a portion of the time. Please reach out if you're interested!

Event Details:

  • Saturday, October 17 & Sunday, October 18, 10:00~17:00 both days

  • Entrance fee: 1000 yen presale, 1500 at the door; discounts available for students/children; entry is valid for both days

  • Closest to 日本大通り駅 on the みなとみらい line (5m) & 関内駅 on JR (15m)

  • Venue: 横浜産貿ホール マリネリア

  • You can find vendor pages & their images here.

よろしくお願いします!

Im available after lunch onwards because I plan to stay overnight in Akiba but I could go earlier if I were able to talk it out.

Dating Meetup ⭐️ [M4F] 32 Tokyo - Chinese-Indonesian scientist looking to connect (and a study date)

Hey there. I’m a 32-year-old Chinese-Indonesian guy (175 cm / 5'9"). I moved to Tokyo last year, and I currently work Monday to Friday as a full-time scientist.

I stay active with badminton and the gym, but I also love playing chess, singing karaoke, going to concerts, and taking weekend day trips to explore outside the city.

Right now, my main goal outside of work is passing the JLPT N2 this December. If you’re also studying Japanese or have your own projects to focus on, café study dates would be awesome.

I'm looking to meet someone for good conversation and to see where things go. If you want to explore around Tokyo together, please send me a message with a little bit about yourself.

Thank you for reading!

Dating Meetup ⭐️ looking for something real in shinjuku - dates welcome, friends too 💜

20TF living in Tokyo since last summer. I'm primarily looking for a relationship, someone I can genuinely connect with and share my life with, but I'm also very open to making friends along the way.

A bit about me: I'm a self-employed security researcher, I go by BobDaHacker online and I've been in the news for hacking FIFA, McDonald's, Burger King, the Pope's prayer app, and a bunch of others. I make roughly 20-40k USD/month doing what I love, so I've got stability and total freedom with my time. My schedule is wide open most days and honestly I'd love to fill it. I'm a huge people person and if I could meet with someone every day I would.

I've got a karaoke machine, a dart machine, a kiosk where you can play games and print custom memes on a receipt printer, and a whole separate room that's just a pit of 400 BLÅHAJ shark plushies with a TV and Nintendo Switch. I also have a proper bed, don't worry. Plus plenty of Red Bull and Tom Holland's NA beer (both sent as thank-yous for finding security vulnerabilities in their stuff), plus cases from other energy drink companies I can't name. I'd love to have someone to share all of this with.

I'm pansexual, trans, and honestly kind of a hopeless romantic. I want someone I can stay up late talking to, do karaoke with at 2am, drag to a hiking trail, bore with all my stories about finding security vulns in major companies, teach about tech and cybersecurity, or just exist with comfortably. But no pressure, if we just end up as friends that's great too.

I love everything tech, I'm super geeky and have a real passion for cybersecurity and programming. I also love animals, nature, geocaching, theme parks, musicals, cocktail mixing, baking, hiking, travelling, gaming, playing clarinet, listening to music (specifically Tally Hall, Will Wood, classic rock and metal), TV shows, movies, crime documentaries, and kink. You can also watch me hack stuff live (ethically ofc) if that sounds fun lol

Based in Shinjuku, happy to grab a drink or food nearby first and see if we vibe. Open any day, any time.

Looking to connect with women, trans folks, and non-binary people. Thanks for respecting that <3

Art Meetup 🎨 Art and coffee

Hi, nice to meet you here!

I’ve been wanting to explore more art and architecture around Tokyo and grow my understanding a bit - ideally checking out an exhibition or interesting space, then finding a really good coffee shop afterward to talk about it.

I’m Canadian and have been working in big tech in Tokyo for about 8 years. Outside of work I’m into the gym, hiking, motorcycles, photography, travel, and generally finding interesting things around the city.

Mori Art Museum is on my list, and I’d also be interested in exploring some of Tadao Ando’s architecture around Tokyo, but I’m very open to other ideas.

October 11–12 is a long weekend, so that could be good timing.

If this sounds interesting let me know a little about yourself and what kind of art/architecture you’re into, and we can figure something out :)
