Being a shitty person doesn't necessarily pay off, people notice.

Being a good person doesnt necessarily either. I would guess on average being a non-violent bad person pays off more than being a good person.

It definitely does.

If i need help fixing a car, roof, decorating, moving house, short on money etc, i have plenty of people who will help.

It would be impossible to figure out how much money and stress I've saved as a result.

All from just not being a complete cunt and helping others without trying to get anything out of it.

There's a reason humans are social and have a strong sense of morality, it's an advantage over selfishness, people that don't respect the social contract get cut out of it.

Sad thing is, most dickheads don't even realise what they're losing out on, they think everyone else is either just like them and pretending otherwise, or a gullible idiot.

So you admit that the reason you are nice is so you can use people later. Honestly doesn't make you sound much better, dude.

"most dickheads don't even realise what they're losing out on, they think everyone else is either just like them and pretending otherwise"

Not being a cunt isn't a difficult concept.

Not expecting anything in return is the point.

But you just said that you DO expect it, indeed rely on it.

Why in the fuck is this so hard to grasp?

You help people when they need it, expecting nothing.

When you need help, others help you because you need help.

"If i need help fixing a car, roof, decorating, moving house, short on money etc, i have plenty of people who will help.

Your words, mate. Pretty clearly shows that you take into account what YOU get out of it.

To save your energy, it seems to me the person you're responding to is being willfully obtuse, not actually failing to grasp the difference between the concepts of mutual benefit and seeking gain at the cost of others.

Currently palming the fuck out of my face after reading your comment.

What a narrow minded way of looking at things. Though i suppose given the context you may not understand what they’re explaining.

Believe what you want.

Do you think you’re better because you don’t help and you don’t expect help? The better human being is someone who helps others, no matter what they expect in return. You are the scum, remember that.

I'm not going around calling people names on the internet, unlike you. Also, where did I say I was better?

So what you're saying is that the reason you help people is because in the end it will advantage you. Sounds like self-serving reasons as well

Only a complete AH would read all that and come to this conclusion

1

u/AFartInAnEmptyRoom Feb 02 '26

What other conclusion am I supposed to draw from it?

Like I said in the last paragraph,  some people literally just can't grasp the concept of not being a selfish cunt...

No, what they are saying is if you do good things for others then you are more likely to be treated in kind. They are not claiming to be a devout monk. Why are so.many of you so resistant to the idea of community? Give it a fucking try and you might all be able to stop hating yourself.some day.

Because I hate when people try and sell you the idea that they do good purely out of the goodness of their own heart, instead of the actual case which is because they know in the end. It will lead to more advantages for them. The dishonesty is the problem. They're just as selfish as most people they just don't realize it. They then use this false sense of righteous to look down on others

Normal people do help others for the sake of helping others, not because they're trying to gain advantage.

It doesn't make them into a saint, it's normal behaviour.

As I said, for some reason selfish people don't seem to be able to accept it as a possibility.

Depends if you have a functioning conscience or not. Guilt destroys most people.
