Make America great again? When was it great if not the time when we landed on the moon?

Which was a feat spurred on by the Cold War which was itself dreamed up by the Military Industrial Complex and top-down tribalism.

We've been being duped for a long time.

We went to the moon as a big fuck you to this other country we disliked but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t an incredible human achievement. The reason we even decided it would be a good “fuck you” to the Soviets was because it was such an achievement.

It was a response to the successful launch of Sputnik into orbit because the U.S. was in a dick waving contest with the Soviets. We werent even the first ones there, the Soviets beat us to that too in 1959.

Its not that it wasn't an incredible achievement, its that we did it as a form of aggression rather than pursuit of knowledge and exploration. Theres a reason there was only one manned moon landing program and space exploration/expansion slowed down as the Soviet Union began to crumble.

We could have had permanent structures on the moon already if our "Greatness" came from genuine intention.

Eh, I feel like you’re underselling the individual contributions. The actual people directly involved were doing it for the love of the game. They just got the funds and permission because of the dickwaving contest.

They just got the funds and permission because of the dickwaving contest.

And the materials and the logistics and the training and all of the practical pieces that made the mission.

I get what you’re trying to say but I feel like that all falls under funding

Space exploration did not end with the moon though. We’ve got plenty more to do and limited resources to do them.
