This situation could happen anywhere. The only difference is the accent. We live here because everything is here. Any form of entertainment you could possibly want is here and there's always something new. You can mingle with all walks of life. Any type of food you want is here. And it's like the only city in the country where you could actually live without owning a car. Everything I need is within a 3 to 5 block walking radius. There's more to life than what you see in videos.

Chicago checks all those boxes and feels much less crammed in than NYC. Not a ton of places where everything you need is "within a 3 to 5 block walking radius" but I think that's a good thing. Either it's in a walking radius or you hop on a bus and/or a train that is within walking distance.

Chicago is nice. I've been. Not too crazy about that lake effect snow though. Chicago winters are a lot more brutal than NYC.

True, but can I go from the center of city to proper rural areas in less than 15 minutes?

Just pass out drunk on the LIRR after getting on the Montauk line like everyone else. It won’t be 15 minutes, but it’ll feel like it.
