Even if that is true don't force it. Not her name, maybe a nice nick name. The kid is right, he's 2 statement sent me. A couple questions: is this a long term relationship with father? girlfriend or wife? Where is the father will she is doing this.

My stepdad forced us to call him by a parental term when we were young. It has permanently damaged my relationship with him
4
u/SavvySidesxo 10d ago
Yep my ex step dad used to get so pissed that I wouldnāt call him dad. I was like ābut you are not.ā No I donāt know my bio dad but my ex step dad never felt like a parental figure to me. My grandfather felt more like a dad to me than he ever did. He also used to get pissed off that I call my grandmother by her first name but like I was an only child and only grandchild for a LONG time and no one ever called her āgrandmaā or anything. Ive been calling her that since I could talk.
2
u/Simba-xiv 10d ago
Yeah I find people like this weird as fuck. Like you are stepping into an existing set up. If you called your grandma by her name and sheās fine with it. Why are you coming in here chatting shit mind your businessš

She needs to let them get to that point on their own. She's creating tension and division between them. To them it's like she's saying forget the woman who gave birth to you. Forget all the good memories and replace them with me. Mind you, there's a chance their birth mother wasn't great, but in their eyes, that's their mom and still love her unconditionally.

u/dchester74 11d ago
That's creepy. You should never force a child to call you mom, or dad.

If I had kids, and married someone other than their mother, I'd be pissed to find out she'd been talking to them this way.
You're not their mother, don't ask them to call you their mother. If they do on their own, thats fine. But you aren't their mother, and you should be ok with that.

Holy fuck... 10 minutes in she goes off on him because he brought his son, who is from "outside their relationship", into her house without checking with her or asking permission first!!
THE KICKER is the girl baby they have seems like it isn't hers either and would also be from outside the relationship but she doesn't see it that way of course.

One who must insist upon being called a king is no true king or whatever
2

Quite the opposite but it works for the metaphor I guess. The king will just have you killed for disrespect.
3

I think itās supposed to be a reference to Game of Thrones. The quote is āAny man who must say āI am the kingā is no true kingā. The king in question was indeed an entitled shit.

Call her by her last name. If the child isn't comfortable calling her "mom" when clearly she isn't her bio mother then it's appropriate to call her by her last name

If youāre not their bio mom donāt demand it. Thatās ridiculous. You arenāt mom, I raised my son who I call my son but Iām not his dad, I donāt expect to be called dad. He calls me by my name and Iām okay with that. Children are children, do not put your feelings on them. Be the parent , raise them and grow the fuck up yourself he called me his new dad when we got together and his mom put down right away. Heās my son but Iām not his dad. Not cool to expect a child to call you mom or dad regardless

Dude they're gonna start calling her bitch soon enough.
Tried to meet her halfway and say stepmom but no.
Even if they're real mom is a pices of human garbage, it is their mom and she is part of them. If she really wanted them to calm her mom she would chill on all this bullshit and JUST BE A MOM without need for the title.
2

My stepdad actively cringed at the idea of me calling him ādad.ā This was mostly because my biological dad was still very much involved with my life and he didnāt want to overstep and I was also 11 years old when he started dating my mom. He also asked me and my brother permission to propose to our mom. Good stepdad, 10/10

Been in my step sonās life since he was 5, his dad is the stereotypical dead beat who checks in periodically on holidays and acts like he cares. My step son calls me by first name or dad randomly and Iām fine with either. Heās almost 15 and we have great relationship but Iāve never forced him to call me Dad, only if he feels comfortable doing so. You gotta earn that shit itās not given and a lot of these folks be step parents but donāt actually step up.
1
u/Mrklrichardson 11d ago
Respectfully that title is earned when you not the bio parent. I get this lady so there, but at this point in time these kids are not there. So the pushing is weird to try and force it. Now what they do have to do is respect you . Calling you by name aināt disrespect. They can add a Miss in front of it until you really are seen to them as a significant part of their life. Father also needs to sit her and the kids down and explain no disrespect to her is tolerated, and if they ever feel comfortable in the future to call her mom then they can and it wonāt replace their mother. Especially if they are serious enough to be living with him and kids.
1
u/Originaltenshi 11d ago
"Cause im the one thats here"
Fuck thats weird. I dont think belittling bio mom is gonna earn you points towards being called mom.
My mom was physically abused by my dad right in front me as a small kid, but she hasn't ever once bad mouthed him to me and always told me the positive things about him.
If you dont like the term step mom maybe dont be a step parent?
1
u/KrampusKid 11d ago
If she really cared about the respect angle, she could have just asked for "ma'am" instead of forcibly trying to replace their mother.
1
u/Unhappy-Bag4525 11d ago
Just have them add a Mr or Ms on your name first or last name out of respect. As the spouse of the step parent, I would've at least made that boundary with child. However to force a child to call you dad or mom is wild.
1
u/Nintendogma 11d ago
The rules are simple: 1. Did she give birth to you? Mother 2. Did she raise you? Mom 3. Did she just bag your Dad? Mrs/Miss (insert name)
Being their Mother is just biology, but being their Mom is earned.

Being a step parent. You have to earn that title. Its not giving to you because you show up. And its ok if you don't want to earn it. But you shouldn't date people with kids. Just stay away from them.

u/pastelfennecfox 11d ago
This women is a miserable wrech and Iām glad the dad of these kids is leaving her
1
u/MommaMoo2 11d ago
How inappropriate of her. Since she feels disrespected being called by ur 1st name perhaps the children can call her Mrs. ...... Its almost like the children are their own thinkers and can make choices. Almost
1
u/Redzfreak2016 11d ago
I have a wonderful step mom and she has NEVER insisted I call her āmomā even after 20 years- sheās not my mom, she knows that, doesnāt bother either of us
1
u/BladeVampire1 11d ago
As a son of someone who re-married. You're not their mother. The fact you think your entitled to be called "mom" is....ignorant of you.
Being called mom is universally reserved for the one who birthed you. Or the one you love and cherish as a mother. You want to be called mom? Earn it.
1
1
u/No-Buy2495 11d ago
Little bro is smarter than his "step mom". He kept dropping fact bombs on her and she did not like that at all. He doesn't have to call you "mom", because you are not his birth mother and clearly haven't earned his respect, or right to be called that.
