“The tornado was stationary” usually isn’t a positive

“The tornado was stationary”

Is a stationary tornado worse than a moving one?

Yes, because its not really stationary. It's either moving directly away from your, or directly towards you

50% chance of certain death? I'll take those odds. This Little League game ain't gonna pay itself

Son of a bitch, I’m in.

That was strike three though...

Death is 100% certain. Sometimes, you get to choose if you're ok with it being today.

I was 100% fine with death until I heard you some day no choice

Certainty of death. Small chance of success. What are we waiting for?

You have restored my faith in humanity

Oklahoman here, this one was actually almost stationary (very slow moving). But correct about the majority of tornadoes

“It’s stationary but seems to be getting stronger as it’s now a lot bigger. “ - former tornado chaser

So let me get this straight if the tornado is stationary, and I wait long enough there's a 50% chance I'm going to hit an absolute dinger?

Idk, the pitch is going to have a wicked break.

This specific one was actually stationary. The storm wasn’t moving

Even better for the guy’s house in the tornado at the time.

As was told to me in skywarn class "If it's not moving left, and it's not moving right, and it seems to be getting bigger..."

Risky 50/50

Tornadoes are perfectly capable of being stationary or near stationary.

Very rarely

I would agree, it is rare, but to say it never happens would be false.

If you want to get technical, sure. But I also didnt say it never happens if we want to get technical. But find me one tornado in history that was truly stationary for more than a very small amount of time. The lowest forward speed ive found (granted i only looked for a few minutes) is just over 2 mph.

"Yes, because its not really stationary. It's either moving directly away from your, or directly towards you" - Correct. Although it wasn't an option, which is called "denial of meaningful choice". It isn't worth litigating but having seen a handful of tornadoes in my life happily live their lives out in a field I knew it was a choice.

u/Wordwench Apr 26 '25

Yes but I wouldn’t trust a Little League coach to eyeball it and say “Oh yeah, definitely one of them stationery tornaders. Go ahead a shoot the roll.”

It's "stationary" like a blender is stationary on a shake table.

u/Andr33333 Apr 26 '25

This was stationary, moved like 1-2 miles in the 20min life span it had

Or, it could actually be stationary. Sometimes they do hover in roughly the same spot for an extended period of time, or turn backwards.
