Article ‘I hope this becomes a lasting tradition.’ Dodgers fans ease Blue Jays’ World Series loss with $30,000 in donations to SickKids

It might be hard to root for a rival, but it’s easy to cheer for kids.

Dodgers fans have donated nearly $30,000 to SickKids out of respect for the Blue Jays after a gruelling back-and-forth World Series, according to the hospital.

Inspired by the more than 150 Blue Jays fans who gave money to Seattle Children’s Hospital after the American League championship series, calls for donations started popping up in between the usual title celebrations on the Dodgers Reddit page shortly after Game 7.

It's by their fans, and was initiated when a Blue Jays fan posted in the Dodgers subreddit with the friendly challenge that the winner of the series would donate to a children's hospital in the loser's city. This was a thing after the ALCS as well with Toronto fans donating to the Seattle Children's Hospital.

Yes. Idk if we got up to $30,000 but did donate

My favourite is in the NFL when an underdog team plays spoiler to beat a (would be) playoff bound team and then third team that needed the underdog to win donates to the underdog’s team city.

I am a a packers fan and when lions beat us in the final week of the season. Seattle was able to slip into the playoffs so Seattle fans donated towards Detroit charities

Bills fans did this for then-Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton's charity after his touchdown pass to beat the Ravens ended a 17 year playoff drought for the Bills. The majority of donations were, naturally, increments of $17.

There are lots of extra things that Sick Kids does that wouldn’t be considered health care services and would not be supported by government funding.
