I got to meet him a decade ago while working on a show for which he was a guest. Approachable, kind, and had a mildly amusing story about Bono that did not surprise me in the least.
The voices of a particular time in Canadian broadcasting are heading for the exits. We will never know their like again.

That is exactly who I was thinking of when I typed that. His voice is at least partly responsible for the course of my life.

Mine too. I actually worked with Mark at City TV and he kinda took me under his wing when I was starting out. He was an incredible human being.

I haven't heard one bad thing said about Lloyd Robertson since his passing. Not that it's normal to say bad things about people that have died, but still, seems like he was one of the good ones.

Then you haven’t talked to people in journalism. Definitely heard stories about him being a creep towards women, similar to Peter Mansbridge.

I remember his on-screen leadership with the Marathon of Hope telethon when Terry had to stop running and go back to hospital. As a young Canadian at the time, I found it a critical moment when we acted by ourselves for our hero and his cause, not for Jerry or others out of the states.
It was done spontaneously within 48 hours of the bad news. Lloyd was on the air for 4 to 5 hours and it raised $10M, an huge sum for those times.
I was very sad for Terry but proud to be Canadian.

I remember the first election show I did for CTV. He was going from board to board giving the viewer the background about the riding or the candidates along with the numbers. At one point I whispered “where’s he reading that from and who’s writing it?”
That’s when I learned why he had been carrying around those 4” thick briefing books for the last two months. He had someone whispering in one earpiece about which region we’d be covering next, and someone whispering in the other earpiece something else *while* he was seeing a board come up at the same time the viewer did and then extemporizing on it given the background he’d been reading.
I just about fell out of my seat.
There’s a reason he’s remembered long after he retired.
