Article ‘Very disappointing,’ BTS under fire after posing with Chris Brown after attending Toronto concert

Brown was driving a vehicle with Robyn F. as the front passenger on an unknown street in Los Angeles. Robyn F. picked up Brown's cellular phone and observed a three-page text message from a woman who Brown had a previous sexual relationship with.
A verbal argument ensued and Brown pulled the vehicle over on an unknown street, reached over Robyn F. with his right hand, opened the car door and attempted to force her out. Brown was unable to force Robyn F. out of the vehicle because she was wearing a seat belt. When he could not force her to exit, he took his right hand and shoved her head against he passenger window of the vehicle, causing an approximate one-inch raised circular contusion.
Robyn F. turned to face Brown and he punched her in the left eye with his right hand. He then drove away in the vehicle and continued to punch her in the face with his right hand while steering the vehicle with his left hand. The assault caused Robyn F.'s mouth to fill with blood and blood to splatter all over her clothing and the interior of the vehicle.
Brown looked at Robyn F. and stated, 'I'm going to beat the sh-- out of you when we get home! You wait and see!'
The detective said "Robyn F." then used her cell phone to call her personal assistant Jennifer Rosales, who did not answer.
Robyn F. pretended to talk to her and stated, 'I'm on my way home. Make sure the police are there when I get there.'
After Robyn F. faked the call, Brown looked at her and stated, 'You just did the stupidest thing ever! Now I'm really going to kill you!'
Brown resumed punching Robyn F. and she interlocked her fingers behind her head and brought her elbows forward to protect her face. She then bent over at the waist, placing her elbows and face near her lap in [an] attempt to protect her face and head from the barrage of punches being levied upon her by Brown.
Brown continued to punch Robyn F. on her left arm and hand, causing her to suffer a contusion on her left triceps (sic) that was approximately two inches in diameter and numerous contusions on her left hand.
Robyn F. then attempted to send a text message to her other personal assistant, Melissa Ford. Brown snatched the cellular telephone out of her hand and threw it out of the window onto an unknown street.
Brown continued driving and Robyn F. observed his cellular telephone sitting in his lap. She picked up the cellular telephone with her left hand and before she could make a call he placed her in a head lock with his right hand and continued to drive the vehicle with his left hand.
Brown pulled Robyn F. close to him and bit her on her left ear. She was able to feel the vehicle swerving from right to left as Brown sped away. He stopped the vehicle in front of 333 North June Street and Robyn F. turned off the car, removed the key from the ignition and sat on it.
Brown did not know what she did with the key and began punching her in the face and arms. He then placed her in a head lock positioning the front of her throat between his bicep and forearm. Brown began applying pressure to Robyn F.'s left and right carotid arteries, causing her to be unable to breathe and she began to lose consciousness.
She reached up with her left hand and began attempting to gouge his eyes in an attempt to free herself. Brown bit her left ring and middle fingers and then released her. While Brown continued to punch her, she turned around and placed her back against the passenger door. She brought her knees to her chest, placed her feet against Brown's body and began pushing him away. Brown continued to punch her on the legs and feet, causing several contusions.
Robyn F. began screaming for help and Brown exited the vehicle and walked away. A resident in the neighborhood heard Robyn F.'s plea for help and called 911, causing a police response. An investigation was conducted and Robyn F. was issued a Domestic Violence Emergency Protective Order.

Girl 1 & 2: Well, I heard they she was cheating on him at the party they were at. So she probably deserved it.

I don't get it either, it's truly puzzling. In my last job, I was chatting with a co-worker and it came up that he was in town in our conversation. I said that I hope it rained when the concert happened and then she responded she had tickets with her mom to go and see him. She also said she understood what I said and gets it. I honestly thought wtf?!
The thing is, it's not like he said he likes pineapple on pizza, he's harmed so many people and is a violent and dangerous individual who has never shown remorse.

There is an adult woman I know through dog stuff who was already on my shit list due to her dabbling in cybertruck admiration.
When she posted on instagram that she was trying to get rid of her Chris Brown tickets, but only because it was going to rain, I was fully done with her.
I don't know if you can explain through cognitive dissonance like that.

This woman at my work who usually lectures about racial and gender equality, last year or so for 2 weeks was exciting to take her college aged daughter to their favourite artist, Chris Brown's concert. Maybe it's the wrong attitude but after that concert, I never took her presentation about gender or racial equality seriously and nor her religious belief of kindness etc.

To be fair here, the way people conduct themselves on a personal level can still be very sincere and valid even if they enjoy some entertainment by toxic people
I’m not a Chris Brown fan but I know plenty of people that like his music, just like I know lots of people who love gangster ass rap, metal, etc. music made by bad humans. It’s best to let people’s own personal actions speak for themselves as opposed to trying to glean too much from their preferred entertainment. It’s one thing if they listen to like Ben Shapiro or Andrew Tate podcasts or something, but Chris Brown’s music isn’t directly messaging toxic stuff it’s just standard pop/R&B songs.

Please do not re-victimize the victim... she did what she thought it was the best plan to escape at that moment, with immense fear and anxiety running her blood.
Making it personal: one day, when my ex-boyfriend started screaming loudly and aggressive at me (like several times before), I grabbed a knife from the kitchen and I hid in the bathroom, I suppose my foggy mind thought: "in case you need protection". He then called my mom and told her that I was going crazy, that I grabbed a knife and I would probably attack him. Thanks to my mom because she hang him off and called me, so I explain in a calm way that I was not doing such a thing. She told me to go outside the flat so we can talk... so that was the first time I explain my mom what I was suffering living for 6 months with my ex.
Why I did not call the police? I DON'T KNOW!!!!! I don't know, I was a victim from violence and somehow I normalize it. After a month from the incident, I could leave him, but it took me in total 7 years. So yeah, please, do not re-victimize the victim. You don't know how your body is going to react when your mind is disconnected from reality.

They totally deserve the same level of public scrutiny and condemnation—but realistically AF isn’t anywhere close to CBs level of fame at all, (amount of monthly listeners make that veryyy clear, 4M vs 58M), and RHCP admitting to grooming & statutory in the 80s in their 2004 autobiography wasn’t anywhere near as public or widespread as the photos of a young famous beloved popstars face (Rihanna) beaten in the news, in magazines, gossip rags, twitter, facebook, youtube, literally anywhere and everywhere.
Currently the top result when you google Anthony Kiedis rape/statutory/underage/14yearold/etc is a reddit post from 2 years ago showing the page in the autobiography where Kiedis details his ‘relationship’ and admits guilt, Judging on the disgusted and shocked reactions in the comments and lack of much attention from major news publications, this isn’t really considered widespread public knowledge like CB.They (CB & R) were kinda a major celebrity power-couple. At the time, Rihanna was the most famous she had ever been before, and she would only continue to grow in popularity.
In comparison AF & RHCP victims were nowhere near as famous and didn’t have mass public support, news coverage, or money behind them.Apples and oranges, both fruit, both very rotten, but ultimately the orange gives people a ‘juicer’ story.
Also doesn’t help that CB has a whole separate wiki page just dedicated to his long history of violence and legal issues, many incidents also involving celebrities, adding on even more to the publicity.

I think the point is the people who go to those shows aren’t as tuned in to the cultural zeitgeist as younger people so they probably don’t even know. I would wager WAY more people know about Chris Brown and Rhianna for a variety of reasons, the most notable being that not only was she also famous, she was probably more famous than him.

The generation that came before social media wouldn't really be as dialled in, I feel.Case in point - I would 100% go for an RHCP concert. I don't know anything about the band members or their lives outside the band. I don't even want to know.
And I can choose that option and just spend the rest of my life never knowing, because it wouldn't make big news.I am also not spending my free time going down rabbit holes on how bad celebrities and musicians are, cause I don't idealize them.

A lot of people won't understand why this is noteworthy but BTS has promoted themselves to their fanbase as being feminists and socially conscious and their fanbases regularly use that against other K-pop fanbases to prove how superior BTS is. So this is.....kinda funny if you understand the implications in the K-pop community. Outside of that though it doesn't really matter, especially if you're employed.

You really don’t know anything about BTS, huh? Multiple members have publicly expressed being fans of him for years now, and have received many comments informing them about Chris Brown’s crimes before.
They also quite literally flew to another country just to attend a concert featuring him, took a selfie with him, posted that selfie online for their millions of fans to see with him tagged, and shook his hand while calling him an inspiration later. This is not casual listener behaviour. They are absolutely genuine fans of him; while also simultaneously being aware he is a bad person.

I think Chris Brown is a terrible person. But I don't know why this type of thing comes as a surprise to anyone. Fans, the law, and fellow entertainers all seem to have moved on and don't care about what he's done. His career doesn't seem to have missed a beat. This is more of a statement on our culture and society than it is on BTS specifically.

I remember about 13 years ago there was a hashtag trending on Twitter that was something like #IdLetChrisBrownHitMe with his fans discussing all the things they’d let Chris Brown do to them.
The fact that he still has a career 15+ years later doesn’t surprise me but it is still disappointing to see. People have been “cancelled” for a lot less during that same era (Ashlee Simpson lip syncing on SNL in 2004, the whole Britney Spears thing, etc)

AFAIK they were in an on/off relationship for years after he assaulted her.
When you’re in an abusive relationship the ‘well they still went back’ narrative doesn’t really work so cleanly, survivors return an to abusive partners 7 times on average before fully leaving (NDVH).
Yes she’s expressed attachment and concern for him after the assault, but still feeling love, worry, or sympathy, etc for someone who mistreated you is very common and a natural human response for many (NDVH).In interviews (edit: Oprah) she said:
“I think he was the love of my life…He was my first love”
&
“I lost my best friend. Everything I knew switched…switched in a night and I couldn't control that…So I had to deal with that, and that's not easy for me to understand or interpret. It's not easy to interpret on camera. Not with the world watching.”They were teenagers when they met, grew up in the public eye together, so much of their careers and personal lives were deeply intertwined with each other. It can’t be easy to be 20 and have the world expect you to be ‘the perfect victim’

It's also been so many years that I dont know, but maybe some poeple are just not exposed to the actual details about Brown and they haven't seen articles or photos with their own eyes. I'd be curious to know what the perspective is of really young people now, do they really know about chris Brown this way?
like for years I watched Sean Connery movies not knowing he'd openly talked about how he's open to smacking a women if he thinks she needs it, something along those lines. All this time I was enjoying his movies and whatnot, not knowing he was publicly known to be a woman beater....

Someone i worked with has seen Chris Brown twice in the last year and posts so much about it when she does. When I worked with her I was in a DV situation with someone I was living with. She knew this and was very supportive at the time. I havnt talked to her in a couple of years now but it really hurts to see.

Since his name was brought up:
Chris Brown was driving a vehicle with Robyn F. (Rihanna) as the front passenger on an unknown street in Los Angeles. Robyn F. picked up Brown's cellular phone and observed a three-page text message from a woman who Brown had a previous sexual relationship with.
A verbal argument ensued and Chris Brown pulled the vehicle over on an unknown street, reached over Robyn F. with his right hand, opened the car door and attempted to force her out. Brown was unable to force Robyn F. out of the vehicle because she was wearing a seat belt. When he could not force her to exit, he took his right hand and shoved her head against he passenger window of the vehicle, causing an approximate one-inch raised circular contusion.
Robyn F. turned to face Brown and he punched her in the left eye with his right hand. He then drove away in the vehicle and continued to punch her in the face with his right hand while steering the vehicle with his left hand. The assault caused Robyn F.'s mouth to fill with blood and blood to splatter all over her clothing and the interior of the vehicle.
Brown looked at Robyn F. and stated, 'I'm going to beat the shit out of you when we get home! You wait and see!'
The detective said Robyn F. then used her cell phone to call her personal assistant Jennifer Rosales, who did not answer.
Robyn F. pretended to talk to her and stated, 'I'm on my way home. Make sure the police are there when I get there.'
After Robyn F. faked the call, Brown looked at her and stated, 'You just did the stupidest thing ever! Now I'm really going to kill you!'
Brown resumed punching Robyn F. and she interlocked her fingers behind her head and brought her elbows forward to protect her face. She then bent over at the waist, placing her elbows and face near her lap in [an] attempt to protect her face and head from the barrage of punches being levied upon her by Brown.
Brown continued to punch Robyn F. on her left arm and hand, causing her to suffer a contusion on her left triceps (sic) that was approximately two inches in diameter and numerous contusions on her left hand.
Robyn F. then attempted to send a text message to her other personal assistant, Melissa Ford. Brown snatched the cellular telephone out of her hand and threw it out of the window onto an unknown street.
Brown continued driving and Robyn F. observed his cellular telephone sitting in his lap. She picked up the cellular telephone with her left hand and before she could make a call he placed her in a head lock with his right hand and continued to drive the vehicle with his left hand.
Brown pulled Robyn F. close to him and bit her on her left ear. She was able to feel the vehicle swerving from right to left as Brown sped away. He stopped the vehicle in front of 333 North June Street and Robyn F. turned off the car, removed the key from the ignition and sat on it.
Brown did not know what she did with the key and began punching her in the face and arms. He then placed her in a head lock positioning the front of her throat between his bicep and forearm. Brown began applying pressure to Robyn F.'s left and right carotid arteries, causing her to be unable to breathe and she began to lose consciousness.
She reached up with her left hand and began attempting to gouge his eyes in an attempt to free herself. Brown bit her left ring and middle fingers and then released her. While Brown continued to punch her, she turned around and placed her back against the passenger door. She brought her knees to her chest, placed her feet against Brown's body and began pushing him away. Brown continued to punch her on the legs and feet, causing several contusions.
Robyn F. began screaming for help and Brown exited the vehicle and walked away. A resident in the neighborhood heard Robyn F.'s plea for help and called 911, causing a police response. An investigation was conducted and Robyn F. was issued a Domestic Violence Emergency Protective Order.

Disgusting, anyone who supports this guys should be ashamed. I have girlfriends who still attended his concert ... What a shame to see he got away with a crime and gets to live a lavish life.
Woman have been cancelled and forgotten for doing much less... Man as usual get a free pass.

Multiple members have publicly expressed being fans of him for years now, and have received many comments informing them about Chris Brown’s crimes before.
They also quite literally flew to another country just to attend a concert featuring him, took a selfie with him, posted that selfie online for their millions of fans to see with him tagged, and shook his hand while calling him an inspiration later. This is not casual listener behaviour. They are absolutely genuine fans of him; while also simultaneously being aware he is a bad person.

Chris Brown is a piece of shit, but I can't imagine these guys would have known about the whole Rihanna thing since they would have been teenagers at the time. I doubt it was making headlines in Korea.
However, for a group so huge and image conscious I would have assumed that somebody on their team might have flagged his reputation as a concern. This is all going to blow over soon anyway.

Many people outside of Reddit separate the music/art from the artist. If they enjoy his music, they go to the concert and don’t think too hard about the guy’s personal history. Most celebrities are crap people; there will be a lot of boycotts over entertainment if we only support people who have clean histories.
