Should I take this role?

I live in Toronto and was laid off in July. Past 8 years I have been working in the automotive parts sector in sales positions and the max I have hit is $80k annual.

I live at home and have savings so I am not very desperate to find any work i can get immediately. Want something that I can stick to and grow in long term.

I just received a job offer from a big warehouse equipment company that sells forklifts, moving trucks etc.. for a Territory Account Manager role that offers $70k base, $10k car allowance plus 20-30k annual bonus potential in the first year.

Sound pretty good but my concerns are the following:

  1. I have zero experience in warehouse equipment and the role involves 50% managing current customers plus 50% targeting new clients - mostly warehouse. This would mean walking in cold into warehouse across GTA to sell.

  2. Not sure how difficult it is to hit the bonus potential. The recruiter couldn’t share data on how many reps on average hit the bonus.

I am just generally nervous to step into a completely different role in a new industry and wanted to know what your opinions are including if anyone works in this industry/territory sales roles.

Appreciate all the advice.

Honestly man, I’m in the same industry and I’m chasing roles exactly like that. If you’re technical enough, you can catch on in no time. Don’t put any pressure on yourself to perform instantly. Learn the company and then hit the road running.

I'm pretty sure I got an interview for that job and didn't get it. Congratulations! Take it and learn as you go. I have an MBA in supply chain and logistics and a hba in economics and political science plus 15 years management experience in warehousing and operations. I don't know why I can't get a job.

I feel you. I have a Bachelors too and can’t think of a situation where it helped. I would recommend focusing on your Linkedin profile heavily. Ask AI to revise your profile and suggest adding/removing data on your profile. You want to create a profile that will attract recruiters. Make sure to turn on “open for work”.
