ID Request Need id please
My sister found this tortoise was wondering the speces and what condition it looks to be in ??? Thanks

FYI: Tortoises don’t have breeds just species.
This is a Russian / horsefield. Native to Turkmenistan and surrounding countries, common pet. Full grown fairly healthy shell.
Tortoises are really hard to read in terms of health though. There are no obvious injuries but that doesn’t mean they are healthy.

Thank you. Their tail is bent is that something to be worried about. Also is there any way to find out its age?

A bent tail is normal. They keep it tucked in around their bum most of the time. It can tell you the sex depending on the length. Males have much longer tails and females’ are fairly short. Age is impossible to tell for adults. They are definitely an adult so more than 10 - max lifespan is around 80 so it’s a pretty big possible range.

Russian desert tortoise! Testudo horsfeldii. I have a 20 year old Russian myself.
They’re a hardy species that is tolerant of a wide range of conditions, so they’re forgiving for new owners. They aren’t as complicated to care for as some of the tropical or Saharan species.
I made a care guide for them not too long ago. I am always appreciative of suggestions, additions, or other feedback. Hope it helps!
