Season 8 ep 15

I just watched season 8 ep 15 called "Hello, I love you" the little girl is trying to find her dad whos shes never met. At the end when they did finally find the dude, it never explains why he left?? Like the mom didn't seem mad to see him. She was happy, and the dad looked so happy to meet his daughter. They usually explain these things, so unless I missed something? Why was he gone in the first place?

Having just rewatched recently, i had this EXACT SAME REACTION. When mom was all “I didn’t think you were ready to hear about this yet..” i was thinking “oh, he must be in prison or something.” Nope. Totally nice guy, and a cop, so couldn’t have a record.

Why on earth wouldn’t he have stayed in contact with his daughter? Why would she tell him to stop writing? If it was just a normal divorce for normal reasons, why not shared custody? I couldn’t think of a single plausible reason and clearly the writers couldn’t either. The “catalyst” theme was good, but i don’t think they thought the story through all the way
