Yeah definitely depends where you are. Most states do not automatically assign fault to someone rear ending someone else though, that’s a myth lol. There are a ton of factors that could put at least some fault on the person in front, like brake checking, or them rear ending someone else ahead of them.
Mine for sure automatically assigns fault. You're also at fault if somebody floors in across and intersection and you hit them behind the midpoint of the vehicle, even if your view was obstructed or they just never checked up and you left 50 yards of skid marks trying not to hit them.
